Learning Outcomes To be able to generate ideas to promote/advertise the school ball

using a specified theme

Success Criteria By the end of the lesson students will be able to:
- Identify and discuss different methods of advertising the
school ball
- Utilise idea generation techniques to come up with new ideas
- Understand the importance of brainstorming
- Work collaboratively to identify ways to incorporate themes
into school ball promotion
- Generate imagery in relation to theme and ideas

Learning Activities Greet and welcome students Establish routine.
- Find your name in new seating for group activities
- Log on
- Open and read instructions on Google Classroom

5 mins New Grouping From yesterdays lesson, many students did not
behave appropriately and found it difficult to
- Groups of 3 or 4 already planned out focus so need to establish new seating plan.
- Do not let students swap or change seats Opportunistic as they need to be in groups.

10 mins Pen Relay Allow students to be able to take charge,

- Methods of advertising recap
- 4 different coloured whiteboard markers gets given to 4
students in front row
- Students are to write as many methods of advertising as they
can on the whiteboard
- Which colour can get the most
- Rules:
Only one idea per student
Cannot repeat an idea already on the board
Pass on to another student after writing down
Complete within time limit
responsibility and feel their opinions are valued.
Change in power. Following on from yesterdays
lesson where I had written a lot on the board
during class discussions. Recap of what they
had learned yesterday and applying it into
context with todays lesson. A bit of competition
to and movement to start the lesson on a
positive note.

5 mins Discussion on new and effective methods
- Whole class, eyes to the front, no headphones, leave
keyboard and mouse, blank screens
- Discus some new and developed ideas from previous lesson
on board
- What makes it effective?
- Is it appropriate for the school ball context? Why?
- Take photo of board which will be uploaded on Google
Classroom, update your list started yesterday
Discussion from what students have come up
with. Modelling a good discussion, valuing each
others opinions. They will need these skills
when they discuss in their own groups. Showing
the importance of capturing artefacts for
portfolio.

10 mins Theme Prop Draw A fun and exciting way to give out ball themes.
Students will not feel they have been assigned
- Whole class activity, custom blank screens these themes but rather by chance so cannot
- Get back into your allocated seats, stay in groups complain about their theme.
- Show groups on projector
- One student from each group comes and draws out a prop
related to a school ball theme that they now have been
assigned from the draw
- Discuss in your groups what your theme could be
- 5 guesses max from each group
- Reveal and confirm any themes that students could not guess

35 mins Idea Generation - Forced Fitting Modelling a new technique that students can
apply to generate ideas first in order to have a
- Model forced fitting technique on board using a theme more focussed researching rather than jumping

35 mins Concept Sketches - What I know Students need to apply the ideas they have
come up with into concepts and imagery. This

10 mins End of Lesson - Methods Assignment Setting an assignment to complete. Check what
they have learnt individually. Establishing
- Collect students work back deadlines.
- Show set assignment for methods matrix, individual work,
what you learnt
- Thank students for participation and engagement

EXTENSION

- Students to choose three different words from forced fitting

and create sketches for these
- Further independent research into theme
