NOTES
traditional worship

Frequently in Israels history in the Old Testament

there were references to the God of Abraham, Isaac,
and Jacob. This phrase was deeply embedded in
every Jew. Their genealogical history was important.
More significantly, the people were reminded of the
faithfulness of God to Abraham, and then to Isaac, and
then to Jacob, from whom came the whole nation of
Israel. That story continued into the New Testament,
when Stephen, just prior to his stoning, recited the
whole of Israels history. On this weekend when we
recall the history of the founding of our nation, let us
be ever mindful of the working of God in the lives of
many of our leaders in the past. No person ever comes
into leadership of a nation unless God allows it. Our
opening hymn reminds us again, of Gods working in
the past, the present, and in the days to come.
