Australian Standards Online

DATABASE GUIDE
Victoria University library has a subscription to full text Australian Standards online. Staff and
Students can search, view and print standards in pdf format.
This does not include all HB (Handbooks) or International Standards; most HB and all
International Standards must be purchased.

How to Access the Database

To access this database (print and download) go to http://www.vu.edu.au/library

1. Click Databases A to Z
2. Select A (Australian Standards) or S (Standards Australia)
3. Select Australian Standards Online
4. Please read general guidelines for database use
5. Click Australian Standards Online hyperlink
6. Off campus: You will require your VU Student ID number as the username (no s
required just the 7 digits on your ID) the password is your full date of birth
DDMMYYYY
7. On campus: No Student ID Username and Password is required

Note: The Library has 3 concurrent user licenses so it is important you know what you are
looking for, and you log out as soon as you are finished to free up the database for others.

If the AS 3 concurrent users licenses are already in use you will see the red circle icon with a
white line in the top right of the screen. Log out and try again in 10 15 minutes.

Quick Search
Select Quick Search if you know the number or the title of the standard you require:

1. Select the type of Standard you want i.e. Australian or All

2. Enter the standard number, keyword or title (no need to use AS/NZS)
3. Search

Viewing Standards

1. Click on the view document icon to download a standard.

2. Click on either the Open Document or Save to File icon to view entire document

Printing and Saving Standards

1. Printing While viewing the PDF, click on the Adobes print icon . You can print sections
of your choice or the whole document. Remember to print double sided for large documents.
2. Downloading While viewing the PDF, select the Adobe save icon . Name the file and
save with a PDF extension to your usb or selected drive. An electronic AS document file can
be saved for up to 5 days after which they erase and are no longer accessible, you will have to
go back to the AS database to access them.

Due to Copyright, only one copy of part or the whole document can be printed.

Logging Out
The Library has 3 concurrent user licenses so it is important to log out when you have
finished.
1. Click on Subscription logout
2. The following screen will appear, click on Logout
