Mayor Gomez graces international mind lecture for teachers

Mayor Richard Gomez welcomed participants of an international mind education training

conducted by the International Mind Education Institute (IMEI) and International Youth
Fellowship (IYF) at Sabin Resort Hotel on Wednesday, May 24.

Speaking in front of the teachers all over Leyte, and professional trainers from South
Korea, Mayor Gomez made an analogy of the human life cycle to that of the
metamorphosis of a butterfly, with emphasis on the teachers role in molding the children.

What were doing here is that we are learning something from other people. Eventually as
teachers, these are what we are going to teach our kids -- guiding our child to grow the
right way, teach them to pray, teach them good morals and right conduct, and eventually
guide them how to decide in life.

In addition, the mayor also pointed out discipline as a common denominator for the
success of other countries like Korea and Japan. This, after he mentioned how Ormoc City
underwent a state of lawlessness for a long time, with lack of implementation of existing
laws.

They work together as a nation, they are proud of their country, and they respect each
other, he said. The mayor added that Filipinos also have good traits such as being happy
and resilient people that even in times of disaster, we can still find time to smile and laugh.

These are the things we need to do for us to be successful. Its not an easy process but
we have to do it, and we have to do it now if we want to be successful. The difference
between them and us is that they have been doing all of this for a long period of time.
Unlike us, we know about all of this, but we are not doing it, Mayor Gomez said in
reference to being united and law-abiding citizens.

The mayor also urged the teachers to absorb as much learning during the two-day
seminar and share what they learn to their students.

We can only teach them what we know. What we do not know is difficult to teach.
Seminars like this can really help us [in] strengthening our mindset and the way we teach
our youth of today, he said. Before ending his speech, the mayor gave the participants an
advice: Teach our children to be free thinkers. Teach them to be achievers. Teach them
to listen. Teach them discipline. Teach them to be honest and industrious. Teach them to
pray and to love. And lastly, teach our children to be great, he concluded.

The international mind education specialist training aimed to revolutionize the idea of
leadership by focusing on the importance of having a leaders heart as an educator, being
aware of relevant issues in the country which affect learners education.

The mind lecture started in 2013, and was previously conducted in many parts of the
country by the International Youth Fellowship, an international nonprofit organization that
actively develops various cultural and educational programs for the youths from 86
different countries worldwide. IYF also conducts World Camps which currently serves over
35 countries in 41 separate camps per year.

A day prior to the conduct of the seminar, IYF made a courtesy call to Mayor Richard
Gomez, informing the administration that they are eyeing Ormoc to host a World Camp in
the future. As of press time, no specific details and tentative date has been identified.
