Objectives:
The student will listen to the story The Tiny Seed, by Eric Carle.
The student will demonstrate comprehension of the story.
The students will work together in groups to discuss the book and
ideas for their KWLE chart.
The students will plant a seed and journal about their findings.
Lesson Plan:
Introduction (Anticipatory Set/Motivation):
1. Today we are going to listen to a story about plants.
Process: (This process will take a few days/weeks to complete.)
1. The story will be read online to the students.
2. Have students talk about the parts of the plant at their table
groups.
3. The students will make and label the parts of the plants. https://s-

4. The students will then make a KWLE chart. https://s-media-cache-

5. The students will plant seeds in clear cups.
6. The students will keep a Plant journal of their growing plant.
7. Have the students watch several different videos such as:

Accommodations:
1. For the student with special needs, I will pair them with a student; to help
them prepare their KWLE charts as well as help plant the seed. If chart is too
much I will copy my KWLE chart for them.
2. For ESL students, we will have a Spanish version of The Tiny Seed. I will
also have vocabulary flashcards as well as using the doc camera.
Enrichment/Extension:
The students will measure the height of their plant as well as charting when
they water it and draw a picture of their plant at the end of each week for 4
weeks.
Assessment/Evaluation:
1. After listening to the book, we will ask questions about the story to
assess for comprehension.
2. We will also evaluate the students using the Turn and Talk strategy.
3. The students can share their
Plant Journal at the end of the
4th week to show what their
plant looked like and how tall it
was as compared to their
classmates.
