Supply scenario

In the regulated energy market, energy supply to a customer is performed by one company (the utility
company). The resulting contractual relationship is mapped in SAP IS-U as a contract with the customer,
resulting in a contract-oriented data model.

In the deregulated energy market, energy supply to a customer is performed by a combination of

companies, each taking on a clearly defined function. In this context, there may be different distributors &
Suppliers.

The companies involved in energy supply are defined in SAP IS-U as service providers and their
functions as service types.

The point of delivery is a central object in the data model that represents the supply scenario in SAP IS-U.
This means that the supply situation is analyzed for the point of delivery and not for the customer. The
point of delivery is the location where utilities services are defined and rendered for a customer. Every
point of delivery is assigned a point of delivery ID, which is then used for communicating with external
systems. There are two types of communication with external system, they are Technical communication:
-This refers to communication with an automated meter reading (AMR) system and Communication in the
deregulated energy market: - This refers to communication between various utility companies in the
deregulated market. For example, distributors and suppliers exchange consumption information. The
distributor takes consumption measurements for the installation of a certain customer and sends the data
to the customer's supplier using the point of delivery ID. The supplier then bills the customer using the
consumption data from the distributor.

Supply Scenario Grid Usage (001)

The supply scenario Grid Usage describes the supply situation of the points of delivery that are supplied
by an external distributor in the grid area for company A. This means that company A performs the grid
usage services in energy supply to the point of delivery. Company A does not perform the supply
services.
The following data model can be defined for the supply scenario for grid usage:
Notes on the data model:
Delivery services are performed by an external supplier and are therefore not billed in company As
system. This means data for the supplier is managed as for a non-billable service (point of delivery
service).
Data for the supplier is required for process control (for example, data exchange, and settlement of
energy quantities).
The point of delivery (and its consumption) is allocated to a settlement unit for settlement of energy
quantities. This allocation is made automatically by the system according to the service providers involved
(with the Settlement Coordination,Distribution and Supply) service categories. This is only possible if the
data for the service provider responsible for settlement for the point of delivery (settlement coordinator) is
also managed as a non-billable service (point of delivery service).
For this reason, the data model for the supply scenario Grid Usage also contains a non-billable service for
settlement coordination, which references the control area operator responsible for settlement.

Even though settlement of energy quantities is a process that involves commercial billing (settlement
area billing), a service for billing is not created as a contract for the point of delivery. Settlement of
energy quantities takes place as a billing process for clearing between the settlement coordinator and the
supplier and has no influence on energy billing for the customer. This means that there is no contractual
relationship relevant to billing between company A and the customer.
Grid usage involves company A perform a service that depends on the customers consumption pattern at
the point of delivery and that influences energy billing, and that is billed at point of delivery level.
For this reason, a contract (billable service) is created for the point of delivery for the grid usage service
( grid usage contract).
The contract is classified as a grid usage contract by allocating the corresponding installation to the
service type GRID(which belongs to the service category Distribution).
The system also enters data in the following fields for the grid usage contract (or grid usage installation):
Service provider that bills the installation
A-D (company A as distributor) means that company A is the service provider who performs billing for grid
usage.
Service provider (in contract)
In this case, A-D (company A as distributor) means that company A is the service provider who performs
the grid usage service for the point of delivery.
Service provider that invoices the contract
In this case, SUPP1 is the external supplier who bills the customers of the point of delivery for grid usage
costs.

In the supply scenario for grid usage that is described here, there is no direct (billing-relevant) contractual
relationship between company A and the customer of the point of delivery. The grid usage contract is
used here to bill the supplier for the grid usage costs incurred by the point of delivery. The customer has a
contract with the supplier, in which the total supply costs (supply plus grid usage) are billed.
Supply Scenario Grid Usage Variant A (001A)
As a variation on the supply scenario Grid Usage, this variant involves a supply situation in which
company A has a direct grid usage contract with the customer. This means that company A presents the
customer of the point of delivery with a bill, regardless of whether the energy is supplied by an external
supplier, who also bills the customer.
I
The only change to the data model for the point of delivery is the invoicing service provider in the grid
usage contract. In this case, the invoicing service provider is assigned to company A as distributor.

Supply Scenario Supply in Third Party Grid (003)

The supply scenario Supply in Third Party Grid describes the supply situation of the points of delivery
outside the grid area for company A that are supplied by company As own supplier. This means
company A performs the supply service for the point of delivery. The grid usage service is performed by
an external distributor, in whose grid area the point of delivery is located.
Notes on the data model:
Grid usage services are performed by an external distributor and are therefore not billed in Company
As system. This means data on the distributor is managed as for a non-billable service.
Data on the distributor is required for process control (for example, data exchange, and settlement of
energy quantities).
A supply contract is created for service provider A-S (company A as supplier) for use in billing for the
point of delivery.

Change of Supply Scenario for Point of Delivery

Using examples, this section illustrates how a changed supply situation for a point of delivery affects the
data model in SAP IS-U.
This is referred to in this section as a change of supply scenario for the point of delivery.
