INTRODUCTION

The floral industry is one of the higher industries in underdeveloped countries including

Philippines. Because of uprising innovations and new technology, most of non-technologically

dependent industries are starting to adapt it. For one thing, structure like simple flower shop can

provide better and faster services to its costumer with the help of latest industrialization.

While most agricultural operators in Quezon province were engaged in common agricultural

activities like planting palay, corn, etc., others were also involved in other agricultural activities

in the area like bee culture/honeybee production, silkworm production, among others. For these

types of agricultural activities, ornamental and flower gardening (excluding orchid) had the

highest number of farms engaged in the province.

Metro Lucena has an estimated population of 700,000 which is mostly concentrated in the flat

south-central portion of Quezon, which includes the cities of Lucena City and Tayabas City and

the municipalities of Sariaya, Candelaria, Lucban & Pagbilao. The people are often characterized

as friendly and hardworking. Lucena city is the center of commerce and tourism in Quezon

Province.

Our society tends to use devices that make our lives easier and more convenient. Taking this fact

into account the mobile industry developed one device that made several others obsolete. In our

generation smart phones are commonly used for marketing because of its multi benefits and high

advantages making smart phones reliable and dependable in business. One of the things that

make smartphone so vital to our daily lives is their efficiency. The speed with which you can do

tasks on a smartphone is almost unparalleled. In fact, there are some occasions in which they
may even be faster than using computers. The size of a smartphone makes it almost like a

miniature computer.

Now, imagine, for some occasion you want to buy your lover a bouquet of roses but the distance

of your place and the nearest flower shop is not that favorable, sad isnt? Another thing is,

choosing the best flower arrangement is really time-consuming. Nowadays people used internet

to sell, advertise, buy or purchase products. In business, selling in a limited area is not profitable

and advantageous.

Background of the problem

The proponents are here to handle any of the problems that might rise in the Jems Shop. One of

problems is that it is difficult for the client to handle some phone calls and meetings with the

customers. Because sometimes all orders come in all at once of the customers through their

Facebook page and phone calls. The client also wants a virtual ordering wherein the customers

can customize their own order without customer client meeting. And also the main goal is that

to have a mobile commerce android application that the customers can freely access an order or

reserve online. With the use of modern tracking system, this can also trace the most precise

delivery location of the costumer wants. The pickup location is one of the problems that the

client is facing, because sometimes the client cant track the exact location and it will cause a

problem during deliveries.

Combining all information about the flower industry the proponents gathered and JEMs Floral

Creation most common problems they encountered, the proponents comes up an idea of

developing an android application which is inspired by our clients flower shop JEMs Floral

Creation that can manage flower merchandise, advertise and serves the customer at its best. In
this proposal, the flower shop will improve its business industry advertisement and services

broadly. And in the side of the costumers, time-consume and hassle will greatly reduce.

Overview of the current state of the technology

There are 17 flower shops here in Lucena City based on the Department of Trade and Industry

(DTI) Quezon Provincial Office. Social media and phone calls are their most recent means of

communication to the customers. Customer, who has far from their shop and cant make it

through their flower shops, can contact the shops through their page. In this modern generation,

social media like Facebook is used not only for keeping in touch with distant family and friends,

share photos and information. Some other people are using Facebook as for business matter

considerably.

Jems Floral Creation is one of the most recognized flower shops here in Lucena City when it

comes to beautiful flower arrangements. They are one of the flower shops here in Lucena City

that uses Facebook for business matter. They are selling flower in bouquet, vase, or basket.

Also, it depends on the customer if they want to mash-up their flowers with other stuffs likes

chocolate or bears.

There are some issues in handling the customers when its holiday like Valentines Day,

Mothers Day and Christmas season. With the surge of customers, some of the orders cannot be

process. So in order to prevent this type of issue, customers should place their orders four (4)

working days ahead of these special days.

Jems Floral Creation shop current state technology used are Facebook page and some

advertisement in fliers. For those costumers that cant go to Lucena City where the shop is
located they communicate through Facebook and the ordering and deliveries basis begins.

Because the flowers are seasonal, the client gives restriction on the flowers that are available and

or not. Costumers choose among the available designs and flowers. So the proponents decide to

develop a website exclusively only for their shop for customizing flower arrangements. Their

payment is optional; it can be upon deliver or the personal payment basis. The delivery

sometimes is complicated depending on the location where the costumer wants the flowers to be

delivered. Some places are unreachable or impossible to locate and consumes a lot of time.

With the help of this proposed application, client doesnt need to communicate when it comes to

ordering through online. The customer has the privilege to pick any flowers that are available in

the website and design their own arrangement. The mobile application itself will be use to

communicate with the customer.

Objective of the study

General Objective

The proponents want to develop an android-based application for JEMs floral creation that

can surpass the current business situation and enhance the maximum potential market of the

flower shop.

Specific Objective

1. To provide a mobile business solution for JEMs floral creation and their costumers

The proponents will provide an Android application that could help the client to lessen

their time in making a transaction with the customers. Also, minimize the cost of

transportation of customers when travelling to the shop. Through their mobile devices the

customers can shop flowers and transact deliveries.

2. To develop an Android application for JEMs Floral Creation with smart delivery

system

The proponents will develop an Android application that will enable both the owner and

customer to experience the most updated technology of delivery tracking system. With

the help of the phones GPS the application will know the location of the customer and

track the most profitable way using the shortest path first algorithm.

3. To develop an application for both customers and Owner/Drivers

The proponents will separate the customers application and the admin/drivers

application. Only the customers application is available in the Google play, this will

limit the features of the customers accessibility in the application.

Scope and Limitations of the study

The proponents will study the areas that were being covered in the mobile e-commerce

application. The proponents will include the following scope in their study to develop an

Android-based application for Jems Floral Creation.

Scope

Owner Modules

o Login Module

This module gives the owner and personnel an administrative privileges having

access to the inventory module. Only the owner will have access in the log in

module.
o Inventory Module

In this module, only the owner and personnel can entry this feature. The owner will

access this to manage the inventory of all their products such as flowers, vases and

arrangements.

o Ordering Module

This module serves as order manager. It queries the inventory to find out whether

what the customer wants is actually in stock and possible to avail. This module is

very important as the transaction starts here.

o Delivery Module

1. Owner

This module shows owner the track of delivery powered by Global Positioning

System or GPS. The owner gains real-time information about the course of the

delivery.

2. Delivery Personnel

This module will help the delivery personnel to perform the shipment efficiently. It

can determine the shortest path possible of the order delivery routes by applying the

Traveling Salesman Problem algorithm.

Costumer Modules

o Delivery Course Module

This module shows the track of delivery. The costumer gains information about the

estimated time of arrival of the delivery heading to customer pickup location.

o Ordering Module

This module serves as the home of the application. This module shows all available

flower arrangement of the flower shop. It sends the customers order to the order

manager. This module will verify the customer order before transaction can be

process.

o Payment Module

1. Online Payment

This feature has the ability to perform online transactions in just few clicks

using PayPal account. PayPal gives you a virtual visa card that you can use to

shop online without credit card. It will benefit both the owner and costumer by

reducing time and processing complexity of the transactions.

2. Direct Carrier Billing

Direct carrier billing (or DCB) is a mobile payment option that lets the costumer

purchase or avail the product from the proposed app and charge it to the

costumers prepaid balance or postpaid bill.

o Security Module

This module shows one of the amazing and powerful features of Mobile Payment,

security. While doing transaction with mobile you dont have to reveal your card

information or any personal detail like it usually happens in case of credit cards.

o Registration Module

This module requires the costumer to register for an account. This will serve as the

costumer personal identification in order to keep track of the transactions and

delivery.
Limitations of the study

Quezon based only for the delivery

The delivery of all the orders is only located at Quezon Province specifically within

40kms radius from Jems Floral Creation flower shop only not scaling other places in

the Philippines.

Local service only

International customer and order will not entertain. Payment method and transaction are

only limited inside the Philippines.

The operating system will be used on phone is Android Jellybean 4.2 or higher.

The application is for android operating system platform with the version of Jellybean

4.2 or higher. Android platform uses Jellybean 4.2 or higher version for the newest

features for users and developers, and at this case this Android Operating System

version is widely and commonly used by other for the users and developers.

Senior Citizen discount excluded

They dont give discounts for senior citizen. The only discount they can give is if they

have a promo and for regular customers only.

LITERATURE REVIEW

Review of Related Studies and Literature

This chapter presents the discussion on some theories, concepts and other ideas that support that

study. To fully establish the rationale for making An Android-based Application for Jems

Floral Creation, number of books, journals and Related Thesis from the school library and in the

Internet were reviewed.

Alibaba

Alibaba, the Chinese ecommerce group founded by Jack Ma, delivered its fastest pace of

quarterly sales growth since its 2014 flotation as it defied the wider slowdown in the Chinese

economy and fears about its business model. Revenue at the New York-listed company jumped

59 per cent year on year to $4.8bn in the three months to the end of June, slightly ahead of

analyst expectations of $4.5bn. That came on the back of a resilient performance by its main

Chinese platform, fuelled by increasing mobile commerce and rapid growth in its nascent cloud
computing business. Alibabas better than expected figures came a day after its main Chinese

rival, JD.com, delivered results that were ahead of market predictions. Alibaba shares jumped

more than 6 per cent in early trading to $92.58, putting it on course to set a one-year high.

Earnings before interest, tax and amortization rose 40 per cent year on year to $2.1bn in the June

quarter. Net income fell 77 per cent in the same period to $1.1bn the equivalent quarter a year

ago had been boosted by a one-off investment gain.

Joseph Tsai, the executive vice-chairman, told analysts on a conference call that the growth in

revenue at the companys core business would surprise many given the economic headwinds

and reduced expectations for the industry. Weve established strong competitive positions and

firm foundations for future growth, he added. The company, which made history when it

launched the biggest ever listing on the New York Stock Exchange in 2014, has seen its shares

struggle since then because of investor concerns about its expansion prospects and a lack of

transparency about its performance across different divisions.

As part of an effort to boost its standing with investors, the company this quarter broke out its

numbers into four segments: its core online marketplaces, cloud computing, mobile media and

other initiatives. Duncan Clark, the head of Beijing-based consultancy BDA and author of a

recent book on Alibaba, said the results were pretty impressive with cloud revenues becoming

meaningful and mobile storming ahead. [Ben Bland 2013]

Lazada

Lazada, the leading e-commerce player in the country, is creating a colossal shift in Filipino

buying habits. It continues to evolve and adapt to the needs of its customers by continuously

streamlining website and mobile app design, constantly growing the inventory of items, and
offering convenient payment options. All these result in a best-in-class online store that delivers

the most seamless shopping experience to every Filipino.

Led by experienced professionals and progressive thinkers, Lazada has grown to be one of the

top-notch online shopping platforms in the country.

CASH ON DELIVERY. Paying for your transactions is easy, even without a credit card! Lazada

was the first to offer cash on delivery in the country, enabling more Filipinos to shop online.

Payment upon delivery also helps build trust because customers only pay for the item once they

have an opportunity to personally inspect the product.

EASY SHOPPING. Customers have 24/7 access to big brands and over 5 million products. An

online mall that also offers nationwide free delivery. Through the intuitive and efficient Lazada

App, you also get instant, round the clock updates on the latest promo and discounts on your

favorite items.

SAFE. Lazada offers 100% Buyer Protection. Any product can be returned within 14 days upon

delivery, no questions asked. The 24-hour Customer Service team can assist you with any of

your questions. Only trusted merchants and service providers are allowed to sell in the site so

that every item purchased will lead to a happy customer.

The customer can visit the site from all over the world but the delivery site must be in Quezon

Province. Lazada and Jems Floral Creation, they both avail discounts for certain customers.

Jems also accept returns. In Lazada the 24-hour customer service team can assist you with any

of your questions, but with Jems Floral Creation they can only answer questions when they are

online and if they have any contact no. of them.

In Lazada, customer can sell their products within the website. But Jems Floral Creation, the

owner is the only person that can sell the flowers.

Diamond Florist

The Diamond Florist is a largest florist in Rajasthan, India. Since 1965 that have been engaged in

fresh flowers and flower arrangement business and have millions of satisfy clients worldwide. It

launched Android App recently, you can buy flowers, bouquet of flowers, cakes and gifs item for

your love one by this application. It have been in the florist industry for many years, both

running local flower shops and offering online flower and gift basket delivery. Diamond Florist,

is Indian name at par with international flower brands in both quality and designs provides one-

stop solution for all flower requirements including roses, orchid, etc., be it for daily or occasional

gifting or for floral decoration in weddings, corporate events and individual parties. By Diamond

Florist App you can buy flowers online and use our online delivery services for a huge range of

products ranging from fresh flowers and artificial flowers to cakes & chocolates to combo gifts

and sweets etc. Our reliable and cost effective flower delivery service makes us the global leader

in sending and buying flowers online [Ian Obermiller 2013].The Developers came up the idea on

making the mobile application that can also engaged in flower business where users can buy

different kinds of flowers and bouquet of flowers using an android device. The developers would

also like to more satisfy the flowers shops clients by adding a handy customization that has the

ability to customize the desired flower arrangement for clients customers. Making a flower shop

its client it only have flower merchandise.

App Insight
Web Application cannot use the resources provided by the system (It can only use as much as

provided to the browser) which mobile application can use as much as it requires. Also because

the web application cannot use the resources provided by the system. It requires the service setup

to the cloud to connect to the remote database for all the purpose. Mobile application can use the

database provided by the system (In android it is SQLite database) Web Applications are more

vulnerable to the hacks compared to the Mobile Application. One can easily inspect the code of

the web application which is hard with mobile applications (It is the reason why most companies

such as ecommerce try to force users to use their application). Also there are many

vulnerabilities of Web application such as cross site scripting, SQL injection and many other

which mobile applications are pretty much immune [Hugo Nicolau 2009].

Uber

For riders - Uber is a convenient, inexpensive and safe taxi service. Hire a private driver to pick

you up and take you to your destination with the tap of a button on your phone. The nearest

driver is often at your pickup location within minutes. Not only is this an on-demand car service,

but you can even watch as your driver is en-route to come pick you up.

For drivers - Uber provides exceptional pay and allows you to be your own boss/set your own

hours. Take on fares whenever you wish (work as much or as little as you desire) while meeting

new people in your city from all walks of life To start using Uber as a passenger you must first

signup and create your account. After registering you will then need to download & install the

app on your iPhone, Android, or Windows device. Once you have created your account and

installed the app - launch the app you will see a login prompt of which you can sign in with the
credentials you just provided during the signup process. Once signed in the next step is to set up

a preferred payment method such as a valid credit card or by linking your PayPal account. Note:

You'll only be charged when you ride this allows for a cash-free environment. Driving for Uber

lets you be your own boss, set your own hours, and earn a nominal wage - all in the comfort of

your own vehicle [Nancy Gibs | TIME 2011].For delivery the mobile application can access the

GPS making the clients location to be discovered, knowing the location of the customers the

drivers can now deliver the flowers well-ordered applying the Shortest Path First algorithm that

identify which client or route will be the first to go.

M-commerce

If you've any doubt about whether m-commerce is the future, you've only to look at the giants of

the online world and see how seriously they're taking it. Amazon, Google, and Facebook all see

mobile computing as a decisive battleground in the next few years. Google has repeatedly

highlighted the importance of running a mobile-friendly site; in a 2012 survey it highlighted

recent Google survey, 74 percent of users said they were more likely to return to mobile-friendly

sites and 67 percent said they were more likely to buy from mobile-friendly sites. However, a

massive 96 percent reported that they'd encountered incompatible websites while going online

with their mobile. Gartner has forecast that mobile commerce will represent about half of all

ecommerce (digital commerce revenue) by 2017 [Chris Woodford].

Synthesis

The proponents believe that each and every literature and studies stated in this research is similar

on the present study. The proponents relate and differentiate the research based on the flow of

their network analysis from the proposed study.

When these part are examined together, we find that purchasing journey of mobile commerce

can be more optimized and dependent making their more convenient for the customers. And

being innovated for the future we believe that m-commerce will be the business future.

In the following reviewed documents, reports, articles, information, andjournals which the

researchers gathered will serves as related literature and studies for knowing the edge and

downside in creating an android mobile application used in marketing business for JEMs floral

creation.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Methodology

We the proponents choose the Extreme Programming (XP) Software Development

methodology for us to be able to visualize what we need to our application.

In view of the study that will be perform, the proponents decided to choose the XP Software

Methodology because they have implemented an iteration approach. The proponents think that

this methodology will be relevant on the project they will develop. It allows them to adopt one

more process model wherein can help them at their project. The added refinements throughout

the process and iterations around a spiral model are applicable compared to a waterfall model

which is not relevant to the project. The proponents will be needing trials for their software and
to test the project is fully functional which will become iteration not like the water model every

phase must be completed in order to proceed to another stage of development.

The XP methodology has five phases:

Planning

The first phase of Extreme Programming life cycle is planning, where customers or users meet

with the development team to create user stories or requirements. In this stage the proponents,

will gather data through interviewing persons concerned in this study and to come up in other

ideas by the developers that provides an easy application. The proponents will converts user

stories into iterations that cover a small part of the functionality or features required. A

combination of iterations provides the customer with the final fully functional product. The

internet, related studies and thesis project are used for reference.

The programming team prepares the plan, time, and costs of carrying out the iterations, and

individual developers sign up for iterations.

One planning approach is the critical path method, grouping iterations essential for our project

progress in a linear fashion, and arranging for completion of other iterations parallel to the

critical path.

Designing

After planning and research the proponents will gather the components needed for developing

and designing the thesis project. And the iteration of XP programming starts with designing.

The guiding principles of this stage are:

o Thrust on simplicity by expressing a thing only once and not adding functionality in

anticipation.

o Using systems metaphor or standards on names, class names and methods, and agreeing

on uniform styles and formats to ensure compatibility among the work of proponent

team.

o Creating spike solutions or simple programs that explore potential solutions for a

specific problem, ignoring all other concerns, to mitigate risk.

Coding

For the proponents, coding constitutes the most important phase in the Extreme Programming

life cycle. The proponents gives priority to the actual coding over all other tasks such as

documentation to ensure that the customer receives something substantial in value at the end of

the day.

Standards related to coding include:

o Developing the code based on the agreed metaphors and standards, and adopting a

policy of collective code ownership.

o Pair programming or developing code by two programmers working together on a single

machine, aimed at producing higher quality code at the same or less cost.

o Strict adherence to 40-hour workweeks with no overtime. This ensures the developers

work in the peak of their mental and physical faculties.

o Frequent integration of the code to the dedicated repository, with only one pair

integrating at a time to prevent conflicts, and optimization at the end.

Testing
During this stage, the proponents will evaluate the developing application. Assessment will then

be discussed and analyzed between the developers. Proponents will check for any errors that

may occur when the project is finished. Checking if the proposed application will function

correctly.

Extreme program integrates testing with the development phase rather than at the end of the

development phase. All proponents codes have unit tests to eliminate bugs, and the code passes

all such unit tests before release.

Another key test is customer acceptance tests, based on the customer specifications. Acceptance

test run at the completion of the coding, and the proponents will provide the customer with the

results of the acceptance tests along with demonstrations.

Listening

The basis of extreme programming is a continuous mechanism of customer involvement

through feedback during the development phase. Apart from the customer, the proponents also

receive feedback from the actual client.

The basis of feedback is the acceptance tests of our client. Each feedback of our client that

specifies revised requirement becomes the basis of a new design, and the process of design-

coding-tests-listening repeats itself. If our client remains satisfied with the test results the

iteration ends there, and the design for the new iteration starts, which again follows the design-

coding-testing-listening cycle.

Hardware
The developers considered the following hardware requirements in order to develop this thesis

project.

Development

Personal Computer

To create the application, the proponents will use this hardware with high enough specifications.

System: LG Notebook R570

Processor: Intel Core i5 CPU

M 560 @ 2.7GHz (4CPUs)

Memory: 4096MB RAM

1TB Disk Capacity

y: NVIDIA GeForce 560M 2056MB

Implementation

Android Phone with Kit Kat version or higher

An android phone having android version of 4.4, at least 1 GB RAM, and speed of

processor at least of 2.3 MHz.

Software

The developers considered the following hardware requirements in order to develop this thesis

project.

Android Studio64
Android Studio provides the fastest tools for building apps on every type of Android

device. World-class code editing, debugging, performance tooling, a flexible build

system, and an instant build/deploy system all allow you to focus on building unique and

high quality apps. Proponents will use this platform to perform such a task or implement

and build their corresponding type of android application.

Genymotion 2.8.1

Genymotion is a fast Android emulator which comes with preconfigured Android x86 with

OpenGL hardware acceleration) images, great for application testing [GNMTN2016]. The

Genymotion is an incredibly fast memory-efficient virtual machine that runs the Android OS in

a more precise manner. This is the common Emulator that developers use to test their

application.

Adobe Photoshop CS5

The worlds best imagining and design app is at the core of almost every creative project. Work

across desktop and mobile devices to create and enhance your photographs, web and mobile app

designs, 3D artwork and videos [PHSH2016]. Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editor platform that

can perform such as photo editing. The proponents will use this application to create their icons,

background images and plain image use in this project.
