This document is an abstract for a thesis that examines the relationship between lifestyle and hypertension in elderly people. The abstract notes that hypertension is influenced by many factors, including lifestyle. Lifestyle includes diet, physical activity, smoking, alcohol consumption, weight, stress, sleep habits, and eating unhealthy foods. The study used a descriptive analytic research design with a cross-sectional approach to determine the relationship between lifestyle and hypertension in elderly people at a social services center in Pekanbaru, Indonesia. The sample included 71 elderly people aged 60 and older. Statistical analysis found significant associations between diet, physical activity, and rest with hypertension. The conclusion is that lifestyle is related to the incidence of hypertension in the elderly.

Hypertension is influenced by many factors, life stye or lifestyle. Lifestyle is an activity - the activities and routines common everyday person. A person may experience an increase in blood pressure that is even far from normal, the risk factors that may affect such as sex, age, and genetics are factors that can not be replaced or controlled. While the factors that can be changed or controlled is a lifestyle that includes a healthy diet, smoking, drinking alcohol, do not want to exercise, excess weight and stress. Lifestyle can lead to hypertension. This is because the lifestyle depict everyday behavior patterns - the day that led to the effort to maintain the physical, mental and social habits include sleeping, eating unhealthy foods, smoke or even alcoholic beverages. In this study the authors use this type of descriptive analytic research with cross sectional approach, which is to determine the relationship of life style the incidence of hypertension in the Central Social Services Tresna Werdha Khusnul Khotimah Pekanbaru. The samples are elderly aged 60 years and older who are 71. Analysis of the research that is univariate and bivariate. From the statistical test using chi square for eating patterns obtained Ho is rejected, it was found that the p value < 0.05 is 0,031 with OR 5,280, so that there is a significant association between diet and hypertension. For physical activity obtained Ho is rejected, it was found that the p value < 0.05 is equal to 0,028 with OR 2.667, so there is a significant association between physical activity and hypertension. To break obtained Ho is rejected, it was found that the p value < 0.05 is 0.014 with OR 3.450, so there is a significant association between rest with hypertension. The conclusion that there is a relationship between the life style of the incidence of hypertension in the elderly.
