MUNICIPAL-BASED SEMINAR-WORKSHOP ON

INTERDISCIPLINARY CONTEXTUALIZATION IN SCIENCE EDUCATION

I. TRAINING/ PROGRAM TITLE

MUNICIPAL-BASED SEMINAR-WORKSHOP ON INTERDISCIPLINARY

CONTEXTUALIZATION IN SCIENCE EDUCATION

II. BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE

Our students need to understand why we need them to take on
the new roles and responsibilities required of them in a learner-
centered environment and possess the 21st century skills.
We want students to do more firsthand learning, group learning,
practicing, reflecting, teaching of others, and presentations because
all of these learning activities require active learner engagement.
As science mentors, we should always take part in initiating the
environment they should have in the learning process through our
strategies and materials in teaching.
With the implementation of the K to 12 Curriculum, the
contextualization is a must in every classroom setting.
As reiterated in RA 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education
Curriculum Act of 2013, (section d) the lesson should be localized.
With the familiarity of teachers to contextualization and its branches
localization and indigenization, the teachers will be able to
maximize the teaching-learning process. Available materials and
information in the community will also be given a sense of
importance.
It is deemed inevitable that the head teacher, master teachers,
and teachers who underwent the Division Seminar-Workshop on
Interdisciplinary Contextualization In Science Education to echo the
seminar. Mainstreaming the contextualization in every classroom of
Filipino learners will surely produce critically-thinking and lifelong
learners.

III. DESCRIPTION OF THE TRAINING PROGRAM

This will be a three-day seminar-workshop on the implementation

of contextualization which will be participated in by all Science
teachers both in Junior High School and Senior High School in the
municipality of Alcala namely- Arboleda National High School,
Bersamin Agro-Industrial High School, Canarvacanan National High
School, Cipriano P. Primicias National High School, Macayo
Integrated School, Pindangan National High School, and San Pedro
Apartado National High School.
The resource speakers will be headed by the head teacher,
master teachers, and teachers who underwent the Division Seminar-
Workshop on Interdisciplinary Contextualization In Science Education
at Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, NIFTDC, Bonuan,
Binloc, Dagupan City on June 10-12, 2017.
A Science Education Specialist from University of the Philippines
National Institute for Science and Mathematics Education
Development will be invited for the topic-Lesson Study.

IV. GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

quality science education through the contextualization. This also
aims to develop teachers skills in being resourceful and creative in
utilizing local materials.
The training aims to develop among teacher-participants the
ability to:
1. Contextualize the learning of science in the Enhanced
Basic Education Curriculum;
2. Identify ways on how the curriculum and or subject
could be contextualized/localized;
3. Prepare research lessons exemplars integrating the
concepts of interdisciplinary contextualization
approach and 7 Es model
4. Describe lesson study as a continuing professional
development model for teachers; and
5. Formulate plan of action for the conduct of in-service

The adult-learning approach will be used except for the
implementation of the demonstration teaching which will be done
on the third day.
At the end of the three-day seminar-workshop, the participants
