"FROM THIS MOMENT PERU IS FREE AND
INDEPENDENT BY THE GENERAL WILL OF THE PEOPLES AND FOR THE JUSTICE OF HIS CAUSE WHAT GOD DEFENDS. LIVE THE COUNTRY! LONG LIVE FREEDOM! LIVE THE INDEPENDENCE!". Jos Abelardo Quiones is the greatest hero of the War against Ecuador in 1941. He was born in Chiclayo on April 22, 1914, his parents being Jos Quiones and Dona Maria Gonzales. He studied at the Jorge Chvez School of Aviation. He graduated as a fighter pilot and was a great parachutist. In 1941, he fought in the War against Ecuador. On July 23, 1941, during the battle of Zarumilla, when he bombed the Quebrada Seca post, his plane was hit by the Ecuadorian fire. Instead of using his parachute, Quiones directed his ship towards the Ecuadorian batteries to crash against them, dying in the act.
