Philosophy Paper

BY: ZARIAH JIMDAR

My name is Zariah Jimdar. I am twenty-one years of age and is currently enrolled in the

Bachelors of Education program at UWI-ROYTEC. It has always been a life-long dream to be a

teacher. As a child I always enjoyed passing on knowledge to the people around me. I am

currently employed at the Forest Reserve Anglican School, where I experience the joy every day

of passing on knowledge. I do not want to be just a teacher. I want to the teacher that makes a

great difference in education. Making a difference in education I believe will be to incorporate

technology in my teaching strategies.

As a future educator my expectations for my students individually and as a class are:

To gain the required knowledge so they can pass their future examinations and be

on the road to success.

To ensure that my skills in teaching automatically reflect on their skills in

learning. So therefore the skills which I display will enhance their skills in

education.

To help each child display a positive attitude towards learning and having an

education and to change the minds of the ones who does not. It is my greatest task

to change the minds of the future generations about education and learning.

To help each child achieve their goals by assisting them in every way possible,

working hand in hand with them so that they can be proud persons of a successful

career.
My roles in helping my student meet or exceed my expectations for them epistemological

and practical are:

Epistemological-My teaching is completely dependent on my beliefs and

assumptions I have about the nature of the topics being taught, the requirements

of the subject areas being taught. Discipline and how I think my students will

learn best. As stated in the first paragraph of this philosophy paper I stated that I

want to the teacher that makes a difference going on to say that this can be done

with technology. I believe that because todays world is constantly being

influenced by technology why dont I take full advantage of this and incorporate

it in my teaching strategies. Technology I must say has it pros and cons, but

doesnt everything existing today has its pro and cons. I t is my greatest pleasure

to make it my duty to take technology and positively incorporate it into the

classroom where children can get the benefit of using it.

Practical- Practical skills give students the necessary skills for higher education

and success. As teachers we need not only using books and pens we need to go

out into the field actually practising what was taught. By practicing what was

taught the childs knowledge about the topic is expanded, because they now not

only know the facts about the topics but they know how to actually do it. Practise

makes perfect everyone knows this, so why not every time something is taught

students are allowed to go out into the field to practice it and become accustom to

such lessons.

The factors that I believe can influence the learning factors within my classroom are:
Intellectual Level- Intellectual skills are closely generated to the level of

success. Pupils with low intelligence tend to encounter serious difficulties in

mastering their school work. However as a teacher I need to make it my best

interest to work with such child to ensure are greater, brighter future is ahead of

them.

Learning Factors- Faulty methods of work or study and narrowness of

experimental background affect the learning process of any student. If work is

being taught at a rapid rate and I do not check up on the child, that particular

child will accumulate a number of deficiencies that will interfere with

successful progress.

Environmental Factors- The environment in which learning takes place is very

important. Whether it is at school or at home the conditions must be favourable

and adequate. It is difficult to do a good job in both teaching and learning if the

school building and learning environment is poor conditioned and without

adequate equipment and instructional materials. This can truly interfere with

students learning ability causing to perform poorly in their studies.

My Personality- My individual personality is an important element in my

teaching. The way I interact with my pupils helps to determine the kind of

behaviour which emerges from the learning situation. My supreme value as a

teacher is not in regular performance of routine duties but in my power to lead

and inspire my pupils through the influence of my moral personality and

example.
The assessments that can be done to indicate whether my outcomes and objectives

were achieved are:

Have day to day oral feedback on what was learnt so that it can be applied

immediately.

Provide useful information about what students have learned without the

amount of time required for preparing test, reading papers etc.

Questionnaires can be created for topics so that students can state how much

they have learnt and what I as a teacher can do to improve my teaching

strategies.

According Jean Piaget, The principle goal of education is to create men and women

who are capable of doing new things not simply repeating what other generations have

done. Just as an educator my key to teaching students is to modify my approach and

finding the best way to relate materials to my students. Because today our world is

consistently being influenced by technology, I want as an educator to use technology to

improve my educational strategies. I plan to learn from pass experiences and also keep

up on new innovations and incorporate them in my classroom.

Both my students and I can use technology positively. I can create power points when

teaching my topics showing the pictures, videos and even adding music to bring more

effect to the drama. My students can also use the internet to google pictures, videos,

definitions and useful archives on the topics they have not fully gasps. Instead of

writing on blackboards and whiteboards I can go home and prepare power points

which can be saved for future use.

Technology will help my class to move at a paste where each child is involved and no

child is left behind. I could ensure that each child has completed the assignment at the

same time, helping each other on the field and working together bringing unity to my

classroom. Children are so advanced with technology that class will no longer be long

and tedious, but rather active and exciting encouraging learning and even more

participation within the classroom. In any event barriers must exist, the barriers I feel

that may exist with the use of technology in the classroom are: students may get so

excited and do different things that they are not instructed to do for example if class is

held in the computer room students may tend to use the computer for different reasons

like googling unnecessary stuff other than the reason they are actually there for, In

some cases the environment one make be employed at may not have all the essential

tools for incorporating technology like where I work (Forest Reserve Anglican School)

is located in a rural area in the fields road in Fyzabad so there is no internet

connections, so therefore in my case everything has to be prepared at its best at home

because nothing can be googled or searched if forgotten and some students may be

alienated with technology so they may need special attention helping them with the

various steps.
My role as teacher I was before to the teacher that I will now be using technology will change

because I will now be an exciting educator rather than before where classes were considered to

be very boring . I will now get the full attention of my students because my lessons will be very

captivating because there will now be pictures, videos and sounds included in my teaching

strategies. Now that students are more interested in my class I will receive successful passes as

an educator, more knowledge will be passed on to my students and teaching will now be a fun

activity for me. My students roles before technology was introduced in the learning curriculum

will also change drastically as they will attend more classes being that they will be excited to

learn , they will understand me better as technology is their way of life, they will be more

successful because they will gain more knowledge than before, with my students learning with

technology I will be preparing them for the work world as the work fields is constantly being

updated with technological strategies and they will be willing to work instead of getting

distracted and going astray.

I believe that as an educator that because technology is the new thing I can and will

use it to improve my teaching strategies. I will also educate myself on new innovations

for my future teachings. If technology is incorporated in todays learning strategies

more successful persons will be seen. With more successful person being sen that

means there will be less crime and a better country. This is my view on technology

integration.
