ABSTRACT

Pterygium recurrence is fibrovascular tissue regrowth starting conjunctiva


bulbi toward the nasal or temporal side in corneal surgery scars usually happen
because of a multifactorial factors such as the treatment using Mitomycin C 0.04%.
The prevalence rate of pterygium recurrence in Indonesia ranged from 35% - 52%.
The purpose of this study was to determine the differences in the number of
postoperative pterygium reccurence between Mitomycin C 0.04% and without
Mitomycin C 0,04%. In this cross sectional study, 110 eyes from 55 patients who
had autograft surgery for pytergium were consecutively included (55 patients had
Mitomycin C 0.04% and 55 pasients without Mitomycin C /0.04%). The data was
obtained from the medical records in RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. The data were
analyzed by Chi squre test. The Results showed a significant different in the
number of pytergium cases between patients with Mitomycin (0.04%) and without
Mitomycin C (0.04%) (p=0.008, PR 0.182, 95% CI 0.042 to 0.783 ). The results
between the type of work in the outdoor to indoor is p = 0.006 (p <0.05) significant
effect on the case of recurrence of pterygium. In conclusion, there are differences in
the case of post operative with autograft method recurrence perigium between
Mitomycin C 0.04% and without Mitomycin C 0.04%.
