Colleagues,

Iappreciatedmeetingwithyoulastweekatourallstaffmeeting.AsIsharedatthattime,inthe
comingweeks,thedepartmentwillmakeadjustmentstothestructureofourorganization.

TheGovernorhasbeenclearsincebeforehetookofficethatheenvisionsaleaner,moreefficient
andmoreserviceorientedDepartmentofEducation.TheorganizationalchangesIoutlinedlast
weekwillhelpusmeettheseobjectiveswhilemaintainingvitalservicesandsupportstoour
educatorsandstudents.Thesechangesreorientthedepartmenttosupportdistricts,facilitate
collaborationandcommunicatemoretransparentlywithstakeholders.

Insummary,wewillconsolidateourworkflowsfromfivebranchesintothreeteamsledbychief
officerswhowillreportdirectlytome:AcademicSupport,PerformanceSupportandOperations
Support.Wealsowillhavetwosmallerofficesthatreportdirectlytome:EarlyLearningandanew
officetitledOfficeofImprovement&Innovation,whichwillfocussupportsonourschoolsmostin
needespeciallyinWilmington.BothofthesearepriorityareasfortheGovernor.

Ourneworganizationalchartwillclarifytoteachers,principalsanddistrict/charterleadersthe
supportsavailabletothemandtheirbestcontactsatthedepartmenttosupportthemwhenthey
havequestionsorneeds.

TheAcademicSupportTeamwillbeledbyMichaelWatsonandincludetheworkgroupscurrently
partoftheTeaching&LearningBranch.TheOperationsSupportTeamwillbeledbyDavid
Blowmanandincludethefinanceoffice,charterofficeandtechnologyworkgroup.

ThePerformanceSupportTeamwillbeledbyKarenFieldRogersandwillincludepartsofthe
departmentcurrentlyundertheDeputySecretary'sOfficeaswellastwosubsidiaryteams,
EducatorSupportandCollaborationandStudentSupports.EducatorSupportandCollaboration
willbeledbyAssociateSecretaryAngelineRivelloandincorporateworkoftheformerTeacher&
LeaderEffectivenessBranch.TheStudentSupportsteamwillincludemostoftheworkgroups
currentlypartoftheAdultEducation&SchoolSupportsbranch.WithAmeliaHodges'departure,
theheadofthisteamwillbevacantfornowuntilweareabletohire.

NowthattheLegislaturehasapprovedafinalFiscalYear2018budgetwecanmoveforwardwith
theplansofourreorganization.Iwillbecommunicatingwithyoumoredetailsastheybecome
finalized.
