PRECAUTION
< SERVICE INFORMATION >
SERVICE INFORMATION
PRECAUTION
Precaution for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT
PRE-TENSIONER" INFOID:0000000005779723

The Supplemental Restraint System such as AIR BAG and SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER, used along
with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain
types of collision. Information necessary to service the system safely is included in the SRS and SB section of
this Service Manual.
WARNING:
To avoid rendering the SRS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death in
the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be performed by
an authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealer.
Improper maintenance, including incorrect removal and installation of the SRS can lead to personal
injury caused by unintentional activation of the system. For removal of Spiral Cable and Air Bag
Module, see the SRS section.
Do not use electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this
Service Manual. SRS wiring harnesses can be identified by yellow and/or orange harnesses or har-
ness connectors.
PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING POWER TOOLS (AIR OR ELECTRIC) AND HAMMERS
WARNING:
When working near the Airbag Diagnosis Sensor Unit or other Airbag System sensors with the Igni-
tion ON or engine running, DO NOT use air or electric power tools or strike near the sensor(s) with a
hammer. Heavy vibration could activate the sensor(s) and deploy the air bag(s), possibly causing
serious injury.
When using air or electric power tools or hammers, always switch the Ignition OFF, disconnect the
battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before performing any service.

UNIFIED METER CONTROL UNIT

Speedometer, odo/trip meter, tachometer (if equipped), water temperature gauge and fuel gauge are con- DI
trolled by the unified meter control unit, which is built into the combination meter.
Warning and indicator lamps are controlled by signals drawn from the CAN communication system
(YD25DDTi models) and components connected directly to the combination meter.
Odo/trip meter segments can be checked in self-diagnosis mode. L
Meters/gauges can be checked in self-diagnosis mode.
POWER SUPPLY AND GROUND CIRCUIT
Power is supplied at all times M
through 10A fuse (No. 6, located in the fuse block)
to combination meter terminal 24 (with tachometer) or 1 (without tachometer).
With the ignition switch in the ON or START position, power is supplied N
through 10A fuse (No. 11, located in the fuse block)
to combination meter terminal 23 (with tachometer) or 2 (without tachometer).
Ground is supplied
O
to combination meter terminals 25 and 75 (with tachometer) or terminal 3 (without tachometer)
through grounds M57 and M61.
SPEEDOMETER P
The vehicle speed sensor provides a vehicle speed signal to the combination meter for speedometer indica-
tion.
TACHOMETER
KA24DE Models (If Equipped)
The tachometer indicates engine speed in revolutions per minute (rpm). The ECM provides an engine speed
signal to combination meter for tachometer indication.

Revision: September 2009 DI-7 2010 D22 LCV

COMBINATION METERS
< SERVICE INFORMATION >
YD25DDTi Models
The tachometer indicates engine speed in revolutions per minute (rpm). The ECM provides an engine speed
signal to the combination meter via CAN communication lines.
WATER TEMPERATURE GAUGE
KA24DE Models
The water temperature gauge indicates the engine coolant temperature. The thermal transmitter provides an
engine coolant temperature signal to combination meter for water temperature gauge indication.
YD25DDTi Models
The water temperature gauge indicates the engine coolant temperature. The ECM provides an engine coolant
temperature signal to the combination meter via CAN communication lines.
FUEL GAUGE
The fuel gauge indicates the approximate fuel level in the fuel tank.
The fuel gauge is regulated by the unified meter control unit and a variable resistor signal supplied
to combination meter terminal 32 (with tachometer) or 15 (without tachometer)
through fuel level sensor unit terminal 1 (KA24DE for Mexico models) or 3 (KA24DE except for Mexico mod-
els)
through fuel level sensor unit terminal 4 (KA24DE for Mexico models) or 1 (KA24DE except for Mexico mod-
els)
from combination meter terminal 31 (with tachometer) or 3 (without tachometer).
ODO/TRIP METER
The vehicle speed signal and the memory signals from the meter memory circuit are processed by the combi-
nation meter and the distance the vehicle has been driven is displayed.
How to Change the Display
Refer to Owner's Manual for odo/trip meter operating instructions.
CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
Refer to LAN-3, "CAN Communication System".

Self-Diagnosis Mode of Combination Meter INFOID:0000000005473423

O

SELF-DIAGNOSIS MODE FUNCTION

Self-diagnosis can check for continuity between meter control circuit and each meter (speedometer, tachom- P
eter (if equipped), water temperature gauge and fuel gauge).
Self-diagnosis can check for odo/trip meter segment and low-fuel level warning lamp operation.
OPERATION PROCEDURE
1. Turn the ignition switch ON, and switch the odo/trip meter to trip A or trip B.
NOTE:

Revision: September 2009 DI-21 2010 D22 LCV

COMBINATION METERS
< SERVICE INFORMATION >
If the diagnosis function is activated with trip A displayed, the mileage on trip A will indicate 0000.0,
but the actual trip mileage will be retained. (The same applies for trip B.)
2. Turn ignition switch OFF.
3. While pushing the odo/trip meter switch (1), turn the ignition switch ON.
4. Confirm that the trip meter displays 0000.0.
5. Push the odo/trip meter switch at least 3 times. (Within 7 seconds after the ignition switch is turned ON.)

6. All the segments on the odo/trip meter, and simultaneously the low-fuel warning lamp indicator illuminate.
At this time, the unified meter control unit is turned to self-diagnosis mode.
WITH TACHOMETER (1)
WITHOUT TACHOMETER (2)

ALNIA1117ZZ

NOTE:
Check combination meter power supply and ground circuit when self-diagnosis mode of combination
meter does not start. Replace combination meter if normal. Refer to DI-35, "Removal and Installation".
If any of the segments is not displayed, replace combination meter. Refer to DI-35, "Removal and Instal-
lation".

7. Each meter activates while pressing odo/trip meter switch. (At this time, the low-fuel warning lamp turns
off.)

Fuel Level Sensor Signal Inspection INFOID:0000000005473431 M

Symptom:
Improper fuel gauge indication. N
Low-fuel warning lamp indication is irregular.
NOTE:
The following symptoms do not indicate a malfunction. O
Depending on vehicle position or driving circumstance, the fuel level in the tank shifts and the indication may
fluctuate.
If the vehicle is fueled with the ignition switch ON, the indication will update slowly.
If the vehicle is tilted when the ignition switch is turned ON, fuel in the tank may flow to one direction result- P
ing in a change of reading.
