Precaution for Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) "AIR BAG" and "SEAT BELT
PRE-TENSIONER" INFOID:0000000005779652

The Supplemental Restraint System such as AIR BAG and SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER, used along
with a front seat belt, helps to reduce the risk or severity of injury to the driver and front passenger for certain
types of collision. Information necessary to service the system safely is included in the SRS and SB section of
this Service Manual.
WARNING:
To avoid rendering the SRS inoperative, which could increase the risk of personal injury or death in
the event of a collision which would result in air bag inflation, all maintenance must be performed by
an authorized NISSAN/INFINITI dealer.
Improper maintenance, including incorrect removal and installation of the SRS can lead to personal
injury caused by unintentional activation of the system. For removal of Spiral Cable and Air Bag
Module, see the SRS section.
Do not use electrical test equipment on any circuit related to the SRS unless instructed to in this
Service Manual. SRS wiring harnesses can be identified by yellow and/or orange harnesses or har-
ness connectors.
PRECAUTIONS WHEN USING POWER TOOLS (AIR OR ELECTRIC) AND HAMMERS
WARNING:
When working near the Airbag Diagnosis Sensor Unit or other Airbag System sensors with the Igni-
tion ON or engine running, DO NOT use air or electric power tools or strike near the sensor(s) with a
hammer. Heavy vibration could activate the sensor(s) and deploy the air bag(s), possibly causing
serious injury.
When using air or electric power tools or hammers, always switch the Ignition OFF, disconnect the
battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before performing any service.
Precaution for Liquid Gasket INFOID:0000000005471332

REMOVAL OF LIQUID GASKET

After removing the mounting bolts and nuts, separate the mating
surface using Tool and remove the sealant.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces.
In areas where the cutter is difficult to use, use a plastic hammer to
lightly tap (1) the Tool to insert it and slide (2) it along the areas
where the sealant is applied.
CAUTION:
If for some unavoidable reason a tool such as a flat-bladed
screwdriver is used, be careful not to damage the mating sur-
faces.
PBIC0002E

LIQUID GASKET APPLICATION PROCEDURE

1. Using a scraper, remove the old sealant adhering to the mating
surface.
Remove the sealant completely from the groove, mounting
bolts, and bolt holes.
2. Clean the mating surface thoroughly to remove adhering mois-
ture, grease and foreign materials.
3. Install the sealant tube into the tube presser.
Use Genuine Silicone RTV or equivalent. Refer to GI-43,
"Recommended Chemical Product and Sealant".

4. Apply the sealant without breaks to the specified area with the
specified dimensions. A
If there is a groove for the sealant application, apply the seal-
ant to the groove.
LU

EMA0622D

D
As for the bolt holes, normally apply the sealant inside the
holes. If specified, it should be applied outside the holes. Make
sure to read the instructions in this manual. E
Within five minutes of sealant application, install the mating
component.
If the sealant protrudes, wipe it off immediately.
Do not retighten after the installation. F
After 30 minutes or more have passed from the installation, fill
the engine with the correct oil and coolant. Refer to MA-14,
"Fluids and Lubricants". G
CAUTION:

CAUTION:
Be careful not to get burned when engine oil and engine coolant are hot.
When removing, prepare a shop cloth to absorb any engine oil and engine coolant leakage or spill-
age. M
Completely wipe off any engine oil and engine coolant that spill on engine and vehicle.
REMOVAL
NOTE: N
When removing oil cooler only, step 2 is unnecessary.
1. Drain engine coolant from radiator, and from water drain plug at the side of cylinder block. Refer to CO-33,
"Changing Engine Coolant" and EM-179, "Component". O
NOTE:
Perform this step when removing water hoses and water connector.
P
2. Disconnect water hoses from oil cooler.
When removing oil cooler only, pinching water hoses near oil cooler will prevent engine coolant spilling.
CAUTION:
Perform this step when engine is cold.
Do not spill engine coolant on drive belts.
3. Loosen connecting bolt and remove oil cooler.
CAUTION:

OIL COOLER
< SERVICE INFORMATION > [YD25DDTi]
Do not spill engine oil and engine coolant to rubber parts such as drive belts and engine mounting
insulator.
4. Remove water hoses and water connector, as necessary.
INSPECTION AFTER REMOVAL
Oil Cooler
Check oil cooler for cracks. Check oil cooler for clogging by blowing through engine coolant inlet. If necessary,
replace oil cooler.
INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
Make sure that no foreign objects are adhering to the installation planes of oil cooler or oil filter bracket.
Tighten the connecting bolt after aligning the stopper on the oil fil-
ter bracket side with protrusion of oil cooler (1).

A : Align the protrusion and the stopper.

Oil Pump Clearance

Revision: September 2009 LU-25 2010 D22 LCV

OIL PUMP
< SERVICE INFORMATION > [YD25DDTi]
Measure the clearance with feeler gauge (A).
Clearance between oil pump outer rotor and oil pump housing
(position B)

Standard : 0.114 - 0.260 mm (0.0045 - 0.0102 in)

Tip clearance between oil pump inner rotor and oil pump outer
rotor (position C)

Standard : Less than 0.180 mm (0.0071 in)

PBIC3341E

Measure the clearance with the feeler gauge (C) and the straight-
edge (A).
Side clearance between oil pump inner rotor and oil pump housing
(position B)

Standard : 0.030 - 0.190 mm (0.0012 - 0.0075 in)

Side clearance between oil pump outer rotor and oil pump housing
(position D)

Standard : 0.050 - 0.090 mm (0.0020 - 0.0035 in)

PBIC3342E

Calculate the clearance between oil pump inner rotor and oil pump housing as follows.
OIL PUMP HOUSING INNER DIAMETER
- Measure the inner diameter of oil pump housing with the inside
micrometer (A).

PBIC3344E

OIL PUMP INNER ROTOR OUTER DIAMETER

- Measure the outer diameter of protruded portion of oil pump inner
rotor with a micrometer (A).

PBIC3343E

OIL PUMP INNER ROTOR TO OIL PUMP HOUSING CLEARANCE

- (Clearance) = (Oil pump housing inner diameter) (Oil pump inner rotor outer diameter)

Standard : 0.045 - 0.091mm (0.0018 - 0.0036 in)

If measured/calculated values are out of the standard, replace oil pump assembly.
Regulator Valve Clearance

Revision: September 2009 LU-26 2010 D22 LCV

OIL PUMP
< SERVICE INFORMATION > [YD25DDTi]
Measure the inner diameter of valve hole (oil pump cover) (C) and
the outer diameter of regulator valve (D). A
(Clearance)(6) = (Valve hole diameter)(C) (Regulator valve outer
diameter)(D)
LU
Standard (6) : 0.040 - 0.097 mm (0.0016 - 0.0038 in)
If the calculated value is out of the standard, replace oil pump
assembly. C
CAUTION:
Coat regulator valve with new engine oil.
Make sure that it falls smoothly into valve hole by its own JLC358B

weight. D

ASSEMBLY
Assembly is in the reverse order of disassembly.
E
Install oil pump inner rotor and oil pump outer rotor with the
punched marks (A) on the oil pump cover side.
