Directions: Students will come up to the board and put a tally mark
next to the size of their shoes. Students will then record the
information in their spreadsheet and make a chart out of the data.
3. Fill cells A2-A14 with the numbers size 4, size 4.5, size 5, size 5.5, size 6, size 6.5, size 7,
size 7.5, size 8, size 8.5, size 9, size 9.5, Other. Even if there no one marked that size,
you will put a 0 for the count. IMPORTANT: you have to put size in front of the
numbers or Excel will see it as data.
5. Count the number of people with each shoe size. Data is on the board! Write the
number in the Count column.
6. In cell A15, write the word TOTAL, size 14, bold and right justified.
7. In cell B15, type the formula to add up the total numbers in cells B2-B14, =sum(B2:B14)
8. Make a Chart Select the data, the actual shoe size and actual numbers (not column
headings, & not the total).
10. Your chart must clearly show the shoe size numbers. Click and drag the corner of the
chart if you need to make it larger.
11. Add a Chart Title by typing one in above the chart Class Shoe Sizes.
12. Click twice on the bars, then once. On the right hand side, you will have your chart
options appear. Click on the paint bucket and change the shape fill for each column.
