Aguilar, Shiela Narita M.

Taking up the subject MT Health Care helped me in

different aspects of my life. I know from the beginning that

this is a very important class not because it is a major subject

but because it will prepare me a lot on the things that I will

be dealing in the future in line with my course. As a Medical

Technologist, the health of my patient is my top priority and

I should do my best to analyze and understand the factors that

might affect it. This subject also made me know myself better and view things from a

different perspective.

There were a lot of activities that we did throughout our MT Health Care class. We

had a collage making together with our own groupmates and it was our first time working

together as a team. It helped me practice my skills in working with other people and to be

able to make a great product to present to the whole class. We also had our SWOT Analysis,

which is a great tool for me to identify my strengths and weaknesses as well as my

opportunities and threats that I face. This can help me focus on our own strengths, minimize
my weaknesses, and take the greatest possible advantage of opportunities available to me.

It also helped me know the people I are working with better and we can use it to help us

know our advantages and disadvantages as a group. We also did a role playing that

challenged our creativity, teamwork and cooperation as a team. It made me realize what

other peoples situation might be going through because of the stories my group and the

other groups portrayed in our own play. We also conducted health-related surveys to

communities in Manila. Based from the data we gathered, I find out that there are different

factors that affects the health of the people in a community. I think that it is very important

to have a clean environment and a healthy lifestyle to be able to take care of our health.

We also distributed some hygiene kits to a community that hopefully will help them take

good care of their health and to also share our knowledge about the factors that may affect

their health.

By the end of our class, I learned a lot of things about myself, other people and of

course the importance of health. I am thankful to our RLE Professors for helping us

accomplish all of those activities and guiding us throughout the semester. I am glad that I

took this sujbect because of the wonderful things I got to experience and all the lessons

Iearned.

In the start of the semester I was psyched with the

subjects Im enrolled with. One of those is Health Care RLE. At

first, I had a hard time adjusting with the new environment and

together with my new classmates as well. Honestly, at first I

didn't like my groupmates because they already know each other and I was left behind. But

then, I finally came out of my shell as I join them in the making of our collage. I stepped

out and suggested the concept I have in mind. With this, I have finally opened and

participated as a grpup memeber. The whole semester I was really happy with my

groupmates. Even thought sometimes we are having a hard time in managing our time and

in the distributing the things to do, we still managed to always give our best may it be in

reporting, printed outputs and even in passing the peer evaluation forms. What I have

learned in this subject is the true meaning of community service and a sense of

responsibility. From the malaria management program making to the the seminars we

ought to implement in the community. One of the highlights of my whole RLE experience

is the surveying we did to the slums of Tondo, Manila. Going there with no idea of how to

approach people and to really put the things we discussed in the classroom to a real

community was hard. But together with my very out-going and cooperative groupmates

we managed to deliver our data with the extra effort of acquiring those.
When it comes to my professors, I was very happy with our adviser teacher for the RLE,

Mr. Ezra Ramos. He helped us in digging into our seminars to our outputs. He was very

light when it comes in pointing out our shortcomings and in giving us constructive

criticisms. To our three professors, thank you! Thank you for the learnings and to a fun-

filled semester. Not only we get to help the community but also, be ready in applying

community service in the future as real professionals. To my classmates, thank you for the

friendly competition and unending patience when Im asking questions to your discussions.

Surely I will always remember this course and especially, you guys! Thank you and cheers!

Before taking up the subject healthcare, I had no prior knowledge on what goes on the

whole subject. I only saw papers and photos. I had heard

from my previous professors about doing visits for

barangays and providing seminars but I didn't really know

how it goes as I haven't had a hands-on experience on it yet.

Prior to meeting my professors, I was nervous as to how my

experience on RLE was going to be. Upon meeting my

professors, I sighed a breath of relief, I guess I'm in good

hands.

Before our first official activity, our professors got changed quite a few times due to

schedule conflicts. But despite the bumpy first meeting, I was able to enjoy it along with

my groupmates. Presenting our collage of a healthy man and sharing our SWOT analysis,

I was able to analyze and observe my classmates better. Being able to present in front made

me prepare better and made my abilities and skills of help on our performances. Playing

one of the major roles in our play made me nervous, but at the same time it elevated my

confidence to be able to deliver a role that will catch the audience's eyes. It made a
difference as I was able to put faith that our group was and will be able to present a worthy

play in front of the class. The days we spent practicing was filled with open opinions,

teamwork, and noisy groupmates! Nevertheless, I saw our teamwork and though it didn't

show during our play (it was good, I tell you!) but for me, our play was the best for me.

After the play, we proceeded to do surveys and ocular visits on our chosen locations. With

the weeks we spent going back and forth, I saw what our chosen location was lacking on

and what it was prosperous on. Our community lacked the proper hygiene and garbage

segregation. We then proceeded to make proposals and potential seminars for the barangay.

Finalizing everything, we were able to hand out hygiene kits mainly to kids, then the

mothers, then lastly to the elderlies. It made me thankful on the things I have, and made

me think of possibilities on how my profession can further bring them solutions and a little

bit more comfort. It made me realize how providing a little help goes a long way. It was an

eye opener and for that, I was very thankful.

By the end of the class, I was a bit more responsible and mindful of my actions. It also

made me see things in a bigger perspective. Having more than what I need should be

enough. And that having less than what I need means how much hard work and

determination every single one needs to fulfill their needs. All of the activities may have

given me different opinions and views, but at the end of the day, there was something worth

to be learned and kept. Also, kudos to all of my professors for helping me finishing the

course without my head hanging low. They had the basics down and the knowledge that

was needed to be taught to us students. They were able assist us throughout every activity.

This experience was very memorable and will remain one of the experience I'll certainly
never forget. I will continue to learn and apply the lessons and values learned through my

future plans and actions.

The Related Learning Experience under the course Community and

Public Health gave me the opportunity to apply all the things I have

learned from the lectures. The basic unit of society, the family

which composes a community was first studied going on to the

infectious diseases that typically spread through social contact and

alvine discharge. The environment was the last one studied as one

of the factors affecting health. Since public health is about the

health of a community as a whole, it should not focus on the health

of one person. Instead, the information about the health status of each individual is

gathered and then studied to form a conclusion about the health of one community.

Application of knowledge makes the individual remember what he has learned more.

Going out to visit communities helped me improve myself by interacting with the residents.

Interaction with others gives way to exchange of ideas making both parties gain new

knowledge. Community immersion also exposed me to the social problems present in a

community making me aware and think of a possible solution. Since I am only a student,

I can only do little things but those little things if done by the students will make a

difference. All in all, the related learning experience portion of the course community and
Public Health equipped me basic knowledge about the possible threats to community health

and disease prevention promoting proper healthcare

RLE was a great experience for me, learning how to

communicate to other people, be creative, be responsible and

be aware to the problems that our country or community is

having. Helping others even in a simple way is big thing,

Because this little things might the start of their new

beginning. While im doing the survey for our data gathering,

I learned from my respondents that life is not easy and you

fight for every cent. This is a eye opener for me to help others

whether it is big or small, share your knowledge to them and give love to them. Make them

remember that we have one life, so take care for it.

I am happy in doing this things, make my life worth living by helping others, Even

if we do not have RLE we should continuously help others.

We are turning another leaf to open new chapter in life. As

we come together to embark this path I come to realized how

grateful I am that it shapes me into someone I am in my shoes right

now. As I looked back, I will always be thankful of those happy

memories, cramming days, shaking nerves and adrenalines all in

when reporting and so many things we shared together as one

family. To my three professors thank you for engaging our abilities

and knowledge, creating more confident in us to understand a given concept and equate it

with one better idea.

We start a great race, beginning from collage making, SWOT analysis, role play,

and community program to name a few. In this learning process it enables us to extend our

abilities through cooperation. With this learning approach, it helps me to learn in an open

atmosphere, and carry out active exchanges of information and knowledge; thus enhancing

self-confidence, promoting for the best practice of opportunities. Because of this I learned

to value individual contributions, addressed behaviours that compromise group

productivity, support others as one team and most especially value relationship. Group

work is a cooperative learning among students to achieve the complementary strengths and

to promote knowledge of construction. I also learned in most group activity is to help group
members to fully arouse its subjective consciousness, explore their subject of personalized

learning, as well as developing students creativity and innovation. Having this experience

I come to understand that group work broadens the learning space for students

I was standing in the dry garden before planting nothing, but as I come back I realize

I step in a garden with fully bloom flowers far from what Ive knew before. That then I

realize this is the fruit of my Related Learning Experience. It start from nothing until I

harvest great knowledge from my RLE. This subject does not only caters comprehension

that can be bite from published literatures but offers knowledge that can be taught beyond

the dimension of FEU. It opens my eyes and widens my minds about the reality of this

complex world. We were able to talk to different people, and in exchange they offers us

new insight and wisdom beyond domination of a given questionnaire. Moreover, Seeing

those bright smile in their face makes my heart jump into joy. I realized that I should be

ever thankful of what I have in my life because there are many people less fortunate than I

am.

I come to conclude that this is not the end. So fasten your seat belt, away we go to

another new adventure awaiting to be uncover.

yesterday. Reminiscing the past few months, I remember that

back then there was a wall between all of us. On our first few

days, there was a silence around the room. But now the room

was filled with smiles and laughter. Our friendship grew

stronger and stronger as time goes by. The whole related

learning experience will a great memory that I will keep within

my heart.

Related learning experience has taught me numerous values

and lessons. It first taught me the value of time. I do admit that most of time our group

crammed the given activities to us. It also made me realize the importance of a leader.

There was no one who facilitates the group. It might be the reason behind our series of

cram sessions. I also learned the value of respect. We are all different. We have do not

share the same opinions, experiences nor attitudes. But this should not be a reason to

forget our manners. We, as future medical practitioners, benefit from this experience.

Medical practitioners should incorporate proper etiquette towards their patients. More

importantly, it has taught me the importance of public health to our community which is

concerned with the prevention of disease, prolonging life and promotion of health.
It has been a long journey. We have shared a myriad of memories, been wreathed in

smiles, experienced great adventures, and learned valuable lessons together. It is

disappointing that this journey has now come to an end. However, it is not the end of

learning. A new journey awaits us. It will be a tough and long road. A countless of new

terms and concepts will be introduced. There will a series of sleepless nights and stressful

days. But I will carry these experience, learnings, and memories as foundation and guide

towards my dream, to be a registered medical technologist.

Far Eastern University

Institute of Arts and Sciences

Licardo, Alain Christian M.

If we are going to describe what is healthcare, it is simply defined

as how we prevent illness. When we talk about healthcare, it is not only

about how we take necessary precautions about our health but also to have

awareness in our environment.

The Related Learning Experience taught me a lot of things not only through lectures

and classroom settings, but also by interacting and involving in the community. Indeed, it

also showcased our talents and personalities as a young individual through different means,

by reporting, creating an act of role play, et al. If one is going to say that the course is just

"petiks", well let me tell you, it is not. The course from the start is all about team building

already. The purpose of dividing us into groups is for us to learn how to be cooperative in

our set of groups to accomplish a certain task. I can say that the vital characteristic that is

needed in this course is cooperation. One will have a hard time to accomplish all the tasks

that has been given in this course if you are alone. This course also helps to create a bond

for each group.

Each and every activities is important and will be memorable especially when our

group went to a certain area in Tondo, conducting surveys to gather data for our study. That
experience taught me a lot of realization and lesson as an individual. Though it is difficult,

I had a great time. Before, when I see people doing those jobs, I just ignored them. But

after placing myself into their shoes, I appreciated the meaning of their job. I can say that

it is not an easy task. You will be rejected a plentiful times, you might think of quitting,

but nothing will happen if you will quit. You'll realize that you will just move forward and

forward to finish it. That, indeed, is a wonderful experience for me.

If you will think about the Related Learning Experience, it is not just a matter of

course that teaches a student to be like this and that. It is a matter of application for one to

acquire the real learning and experience. The world will not change by itself. Nor the

community. Change starts with each and every individual and the rest will follow. That is

the purpose of the Related Learning Experience.

RLE served as an eye opener for me. It spread awareness

of the problems that we have in our country. I leaned a

lot from this experience. One is the value of having a

family who can provide their basic needs. I realised that

i am very lucky to have the things I have right now. I also

have a new found respect towards that community because even though their condition is

not that good and they encounter problems in their daily living, they are still happy and

fighting in every challenges of life. I became more thankful of the blessings i have because

of this experience and I realised that i should be giving back more. I saw the importance of

serving the community. My experience with this activity will be forever treasured and

remembered because this had taught me how to be contented for what I have. I think if we

work together as a community we will have a better economy compared to other countries.

As a fellow citizen, we should also be aware and cooperate in solving the problems of our

country. We should work as a community to develop the value of camaraderie because we

cannot solve these problems alone. We are facing a lot of problems and changes should be

made. We should work together hand in hand for the betterment of everyone and our

community.
Far Eastern University

Institute of Arts and Sciences

Rafael P. Minosa

During the RLE I learned a lot not only about the social

problems we have but also was able to see a whole new side

of the spectrum. Yes we may be exposed to these on a day to

day basis but what I saw was something more, during the data

gathering I took part in we went to a poverty struck area in

Tondo, Manila and also a partially middle class state area in

Tondo as well by doing this it showed me that when there is a will there is a way. Why do

I say this? Because during this activity based on the data I interpreted even though that the

people living in that situation, living off 5,000 Pesos a month salary that they were still

able to eat 3 meals a day, this is very shocking considering the state of their area and also

their monthly income. In general this showed us another of the spectrum and helped burst

our bubble into a place out of our comfort zone.

During the RLE we not only did surveys and programs, we also did a role playing activity,

this activity for me was the best activity Ive ever been a part of because it taught us how

to work as a team and create ideas that most people would not think would happen

considering the trailer we presented.

The RLE in a way was a community service for me because we actually did something for

the community even though it was a small act its the thought that counts right? But of

course every program has its set-backs for me as part of the Financial committee I found it

really difficult specially on the matters of money, it actually took me and my colleagues

another week after the program to collect all the money from all the students. Being a part

of an organization out of school this helped me in its own way during the RLE program

because there I also handled money and the expenses of the whole organization. This

helped so much that we were able to spend only 4,807 Pesos from our budget of 7,800

Pesos which was probably enough if we were to push through with our program.
Far Eastern University

Institute of Arts and Sciences

RIOFLORIDO, Danie May A.

Before taking this course, I have no idea what RLE means and

what is its essence to my course which is BS MedTech. As the weeks

pass by fast, little did I know that I have already obtained new ideas

and knowledge about what this course is all about. This course is

engaged in experiencing things to learn how stuff work inside and

outside of the comfort zone of each student. Going back to the first

meeting, we were asked to do a collage about the 4 aspects of man

and report it in-front of the class. We also did the SWOT analysis

wherein we listed out our strengths and weaknesses. I was so shy back then to face

everyone because they were new faces, but through those activities, I gained the confi-

dence on speaking with my classmates. Now, I can talk to them about nonsense things and

laugh with them effortless.

Throughout the RLE class, I became more aware of the things that surround me. I

became very "maarte" because of the new information that I have acquired. In the middle

of the term, when we had the film showing, I realized that I am very lucky to have this kind

of life. God has been very good to most of us, so we must pay him by spreading out his

words through our actions.

This course unlocked a new world that I havent seen. Its an eye-opener for some

reason. First, it gave me the idea on how most of the residents on other places struggle just

to eat three times a day. Next, it made me realize that most kids nowadays dont only just

play, but also work to help their fami-ly. Encountering these kinds of people makes me

want to give them everything. But, I dont have enough money and I dont think its a good

idea that theyll get it easy. They must learn how to earn it in a good way.

Being with MT210 is a blessing itself, so as being with the professors. The

professors are very friendly and very easy to talk with. This subject took me to places I

haven't been before. For an in-stance, our group went to Tondo,Manila to conduct a survey

then the whole class went to Barangay 413 in Sampaloc, Manila to evaluate their ares.

These kind of experiences made me realize to work hard to help the residents even just a

little for their health and environment.

I can describe my whole RLE experience as the best of both worlds. Since Im best

in my com-fort zone wherein Im very much comfortable in just listening to other peoples

talk, being with my group-mates gave me a lot of confidence to speak to other people and

enjoy having conversations with them.

By the end of the RLE course, I became a much responsible and polite person. I

learned that not everyone will like everything that you do and I learned to adjust to people

and adjust myself too to be-come a better person.

Community Service is an important activity every person

should embrace as they are growing up. Doing community service, a

person will find themselves and be exposed to the lifestyles of other

people, which also tends to make the volunteer more aware of the needs

of the less fortunate. Volunteering also contributes to the result of more

teenagers being more grateful for everything they have and thus they

give more. At first the thought of community service was a bore to me

before I began my volunteer work. I dreaded starting my community service although I

knew I had to do it. To my surprise it was not what I expected..Helping out others through

community service has made me learn so much about others. Not everyone can afford to

hire someone for help or to do work and doing it without pay made me feel better as a

person. Community service is not all about the large organizations running operations, but

instead is about the volunteers and those who need the help.

A typical school day for many University students consists of sitting in a

classroom and listening to a lecture. While there is great value in this style of learning, my

community service work has taught me the many benefits of learning not only from

professors, but also from fellow classmates, partners in the community, and individuals at

volunteer sites, regardless of their age or educational background. A country will not be a
good place for any of us to live in unless we make it a good place for all of us to live in.

The barangay that we went to was very kind to us. The initial project was to have a seminar

about proper sanitation and waste management, but to lack of time, we handed out hygiene

kit to the children. Giving out the kits children was fun we got to meet a lot of different

people. I hope we can do it again in the future.

Tolentino, Allan Anthony G.

This semester proves to be one of the unique experience of

my college life. Months of hectic schedule, demanding curriculum,

and inner mental battle occurring daily inside my mind. Being a

medical technology student, I was required to take the course of

Public Health- a field where my knowledge is scarce and

experience in giving health service is still at its infancy. The long

hours of the session paved way for me to be more focused on my learning of each topic.

Discussions, analysis, and virtual training enabled us students to excel more in our

respective fields.

The learning with my professors was another way for me to develop personally and

professionally. Like most of my professors in other subjects, my Public Health professors

entertain the questions I have in my mind; the behavior and origin of viruses, Bioterrorism,

the scientific genesis of mankind, anti-biotic resistant bacteria, the polarity of molecules,

eugenics, etc. The vacant time in between allowed me to go outside of the classmate for an

hour or two, and read helpful materials in the library. Our learning didnt stop inside the

classroom, we venture outside of the campus to probe to a nearby community. Sometimes

it was boring and un-motivating, because of the occasional idleness of the class and the

people that surround me do not have the same vibes as I do. Like other of my classes and
my whole stay here in FEU, I feel isolated and disconnected from others. When youre the

only Siamese in a community of dogs, its a torturous to spend 30 hours a week of your

time.
