6.0 PIPING NA

Design and construction of piping system must ensure: NA

6(a) that the risk of overstressing from inadmissible free movement or excessive forces being produced, e.g. on NA
flanges, connections, bellows or hoses, is adequately controlled by means such as support, constraint, anchoring,
alignment and pre-tension;
6(b) that where there is a possibility of condensation occurring inside pipes for gaseous fluids, means are provided for NA
drainage and removal of deposits from low areas to avoid damage from water hammer or corrosion;
6(c) that due consideration is given to the potential damage from turbulence and formation of vortices; the relevant NA
parts of 2.7 are applicable;
6(d) that due consideration is given to the risk of fatigue due to vibrations in pipes; NA

6(e) that, where fluids of Group 1 are contained in the piping, appropriate means are provided to isolate 'take-off` NA
pipes the size of which represents a significant risk;
6(f) that the risk of inadvertent discharge is minimized; the take-off points must be clearly marked on the permanent NA
side, indicating the fluid contained;
6(g) that the position and route of underground piping is at least recorded in the technical documentation to facilitate NA
safe maintenance, inspection or repair.
7.0 SUPPLEMENTARY REQUIREMENTS TO SECTIONS 1 TO 6

7.1 Allowable stresses.

7.4 Hydrostatic test pressure to be not less than greater of: The hydrostatic test pressure is design
maximum loading to which equipment may be subjected to in service, taking into account design pressure multiplied by 1.43
pressure and design temperature, multiplied by 1,25; or
design pressure multiplied by 1.43.
7.5 Material characteristics. Unless other values are required in accordance with other criteria to be taken into -Min specified l elongation 17%
account, a steel is considered sufficiently ductile to satisfy 4.1(a) if in tensile test carried out by a standard -20J at -46
procedure the following are met:
elongation after rupture is not less than 14%;
bending rupture energy measured on an ISO V test piece not less than 27 J at a temperature not
greater than 20 C, but no higher than the lowest scheduled operating temperature .
