With the summer in full swing and a fantastic 4th of July weekend behind us, Id like to
remind everyone to stay safe this summer, have a plan to minimize risk in all you do, and remain
vigilant as you and your families enjoy this amazing European tour in beautiful Madrid!

Non-DoD School Program Information

INBOUND SCHOOL-AGE CHILDREN
In the event you are sponsoring an inbound family that has school-age children,
it is paramount that if they intend on enrolling at American School of Madrid
(ASM) that they start the process upon receipt of orders. Failure to do so could
result in non-availability at ASM. This is due in part to the fact that ASM is a
private college prep institution with limited space. NDSP Liaison is available
to for all questions and can be reached at lunar.odhiambo@eu.navy.mil.

SUPPLEMENTAL SUPPORT REQUEST

If a student is failing or is at risk of failing a course, Non-DOD School Program (NDSP) can authorize
funding. The sponsor should have the school complete the attached worksheet. The school/sponsor needs
to include a report card/progress report/grade report to assist NDSP in reviewing the need for tutoring.
Typically, NDSP can authorize one (1) hour/week of tutoring per subject. Once the request is received by
ndsp.education.europe@eu.dodea.edu, response will be sent within 2 business days. Supplemental Sup-
port is not normally authorized outside of the regular school calendar. However, there are circumstances
that will require Summer Assistance. Circumstances could include; failure of entire grade level, failed an
academic subject, student is at risk for promotion without summer intervention, student is at risk- school
plans to promote but without summer assistance student may be at risk in the next school year, and student
application to a school is identified as conditional by the receiving school pending the outcome of summer
assistance to improve skills to meet entrance requirements. For more information, please contact Chief
Odhiambo at lunar.odhiambo@eu.navy.mil or the Education Specialist Team at

Computer Security

The WANNACRY ransomware attack has impacted thousands of computers worldwide. The target of
the attack were older, unpatched versions of Windows Operating System exploiting a known Windows
vulnerability. But all computers and operating systems can be targeted.

To reduce the chances of becoming a victim of ransomware the following simple steps are recommend-
ed :

For your work computer:

Avoid downloading attachments or clicking on links found in e-mails from senders you don't recognize.
Be especially careful when dealing with email that is not digital-
ly signed.

Back up important data files to your enterprise home drive, not

the C:/ drive on your client. Should your C:/ crash or become the
victim of malware the files can still be available on the network.
Anything on the C:/ drive will be lost if the drive needs to be
reimaged.

Should you suspect malware is on your ONENET computer con-

tact the NCTS Help Desk at 626-HELP (626-4357).

For your home computers.

PATCH- Ensure you are running the latest version of your
operating system. Load security patches when they are re-
leased. MICROSOFT released patches for the WANNACRY
vulnerability in March. Ensure your antivirus software has
the most up to date signature files loaded.

BACKUP- Backup not only your data but the entire system to
an external hard drive. The operating systems vendors will
have detailed directions on how to do this at their support websites.
