1. General

This product is produced and marketed by BASF AG, Ludwigshafen, Germany. The units producing and marketing
this product are certified according to ISO 9001:2001. An HACCP concept is implemented. GMP and BRC Global
Standard Food (March 2003 higher level) requirements are fulfilled.

Appearance: white or slightly yellowish, fine crystalline powder, with an odour of SO2

Sodium Metabisulfite Food Grade fulfils the purity criteria for food additives set by EU Directive 96/77/EU, the Joint
(FAO/WHO) Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA) in the Codex Alimentarius as well as the ones
contained in the Food Chemical Codex 2004 5th edition, FCC V. The purity of this product fulfils the specifications
limits of the European Pharmacopoeia 4 2002, US Pharmacopeia 27 2004, British Pharmacopoeia 2003 and
Japanese Pharmacopoeia XIV as well as the DIN EN 12121:1998 norm for chemicals used for treatment of water
intended for human consumption. For use as a food additive, Sodium Metabisulfite Food Grade has a limited
license according to E-No. 223.
