JOHN PEMBERTON, EL HOMBRE QUE INVENT COCA-COLA?

Para conocer el nacimiento del refresco ms famoso del mundo tenemos

que remontarnos a finales del siglo XIX en Georgia, Atlanta. All viva
el doctor John Stith Pemberton, un qumico y farmacutico de la ciudad
cuya curiosidad le llev a crear la frmula de la bebida ms vendida en
nuestros das.
Georgia fue el estado pionero en adoptar la ley seca en Estados Unidos,
renunciando a la venta y consumo de bebidas alcohlicas durante un
perodo previo experimental en los aos 1886 y 1887. La industria y el
trabajo que conlleva crecieron a un ritmo considerable, y con ellas las
jornadas laborales de los trabajadores, que demandaban productos
estimulantes que les ayudaran a sobrellevar el esfuerzo diario.
Pemberton pas mucho tiempo mezclando ingredientes para crear una nueva bebida estimulante
y vigorizante (ese fue el claim de Coca-Cola en un inicio) concebida en principio entre otros
muchos remedios y elixires de la poca. Pero haba algo distinto en ella: Pemberton consigui ese
sabor nico que caracteriza a Coca-Cola mezclando en su laboratorio ingredientes naturales
como la hoja de la planta de coca, la nuez de cola y el agua de soda. Era el 8 de mayo de 1886.
Con el sirope en una jarra, Pemberton se dirigi hacia la hoy en da famosa farmacia Jacobs,
donde cada vaso de sirope, agua carbonatada y hielos se comenz vendiendo al precio de 5
centavos. Poco a poco esta nueva bebida fue hacindose un sitio entre la sociedad local y se fue
infiltrando en la vida cotidiana de los norteamericanos.
En este vdeo podis ver una recreacin de la formulacin original de Coca-Cola (Pemberton
mezclaba los ingredientes a mano y a ojo en su laboratorio!) y de la forma de consumirla en sus
inicios.
Frank M. Robinson, el contable de Pemberton, fue quien sugiri el nombre con el que la bebida
se hizo famosa e incluso dibuj el logo pensando en que las dos C maysculas crearan un diseo
vistoso y que todo el mundo recordara.
Durante 1888 el Doctor Pemberton fue vendiendo pequeas porciones de su negocio y poco antes
de su muerte vendi lo que le quedaba a Asa G. Candler, cuya perspicacia en los negocios le
hizo comprar derechos adicionales y tomar el control de la bebida. Pemberton muri sin conocer
el xito mundial de la bebida que haba creado.
El mito de la frmula secreta de Coca-Cola naci en 1892
cuando Asa introdujo algunos cambios en la frmula
original del refresco y los transmiti en secreto a sus
hijos y herederos: de este modo nicamente ellos
podran fabricar la exitosa bebida
Durante 1895, Coca-Cola pas de ser un elixir medicinal
a convertirse en uno de los refrescos ms populares de
Norteamrica: su eslogan pas a ser deliciosa y refrescante, y comenzaron a aparecer
sucursales de las fbricas fuera de Atlanta, expandindose por Estados Unidos y las vecinas
Mxico y Canad. En ese momento aparecieron los dos primeros embotelladores oficiales:
Benjamin Franklin Thomas y Joseph Brown Whitehead.
Ya a principios del siglo XX Coca-Cola quiso que no slo su frmula y sabor fueran identificables
y nicos, sino tambin su botella: deba ser curvilnea, muy reconocible (incluso en la oscuridad
o rota) y no deba tener etiquetas de papel. De las manos del artesano Earl Dean naci la icnica
botella Contour.
En la dcada de los aos 20 la compaa comenz a embotellar en Europa, llegando tambin a
nuestro pas.
JOHN PEMBERTON, THE MAN WHO INVENTED COCA-COLA?

To learn about the birth of the most famous drink in the world, we have to go back at the end of
the 19th century in Georgia, Atlanta. There lived the Dr. John Stith
Pemberton, a chemist and pharmacist of the city whose curiosity led
him to create the formula of best-selling beverage in our days.
Georgia pioneered the State adopt the prohibition in the United States,
renouncing the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages during an
experimental period in the years 1886 and 1887. Industry and the work
involved grew at a considerable pace, and with them the working hours
of workers who demanded stimulating products that help them cope with
the daily effort.
Pemberton spent much time mixing ingredients to create a new drink "stimulating and
invigorating" (that was the claim of Coca-Cola in a home) conceived in principle among others
many remedies and elixirs of the time. But there was something different in it: Pemberton got
that unique flavor that characterizes Coca-Colamixing natural ingredients like the leaf of the
coca plant, the Kola nut and soda water in your laboratory. It was on May 8, 1886.
With the syrup in a pitcher, Pemberton turned towards the today famous Jacob's pharmacy,
where each cup of syrup, water carbonated and ice began selling at the price of 5
cents. Gradually this new drink was becoming a site between the local society and was sneaking
up on the everyday lives of Americans.

mixed the ingredients by hand and eye in his lab!) and the way of consuming it in the beginning.
Frank M. Robinson , the accountant of Pemberton, was who suggested the name with which
the drink was made famous and even drew the logo thinking that the two capital letters C would
create a colorful design and that everyone would remember.
During 1888 Doctor Pemberton was selling small portions of his business and shortly before his
death sold the remainder to Asa g. Candler, whose business acumen made him buy additional
rights and take control of the beverage. Pemberton died without knowing the worldwide success
of the drink he had created.
The myth of the secret formula for Coca-Cola was born in 1892 when Asa introduced some
changes in the original soft drink formula and
transmitted them in secret to his sons and heirs:
thus they could only manufacture successful beverage
During 1895, Coca-Cola went from being a medicinal
elixir to become one of North America's most
popular soft drinks: their slogan became "delicious
and refreshing", and began to appear the factories
outside Atlanta branches, expanding United States and neighboring Mexico and Canada. At that
time appeared the first two official bottlers: Benjamin Franklin Thomas and Joseph Brown
Whitehead.
Already at the beginning of the century XX Coca-Cola wanted to not only its formula and flavor
were identifiable and unique, but also your bottle: it had to be curvaceous, very recognizable
(even in darkness or rattan) and should not have paper labels. From the hands of the
craftsman Earl Dean was born the iconicContour bottle.
In the Decade of the twenties the company began bottling in Europe, also reaching our country .

esperar un poco. Pero de pronto se abri el pavimento y se hizo un
bache de 3 m de ancho y 2 de profundidad, y ah muri..,

Por que!, vida ingrata! Qu e hecho yo, para que me arrebates en tan
horrible transe el amor de mi vida?! Ella tan hermosa, y productiva! Era
la mejor persona que conoca!

La sepultaron hoy en la tarde, yo asist al velorio, su mam estaba

inconsolable vendiendo pan y caf, para costear el sepelio; me desped
de ella en el cementerio, pero la visitare el da de muertos.
