Abstract: T his paper describes the foreign and Chinese studies on the effectiveness of L 2 lear ning strategies. On that
basis, it attempts to challenge the assertions that goo d and bad L2 learners differ in str ateg y use, learning strateg ies
predict learning outcomes and strategy tr aining facilitates L 2 learning. F inally, it proposes some useful ways of
studying the effectiveness of L 2 learning strategies.
