GUIDE FOR MBAAR ASSIGNMENT 2 -REVISED

LO 3

3.1 Design systems to manage and monitor quality standards specified by the organization

- Discuss about quality and quality systems e.g. QMS, ISO 9000, TQM, QC, QA
- Explain how the standards of quality will be maintained and monitored in your respective
companies. Design a quality system for your company. You may follow the following format:
a. What systems will you use in the company
b. How will these systems be applied in the company
c. How will the quality standards be set-up
d. How will the standards be managed and monitored

3.2 Demonstrate a quality culture to ensure continuous monitoring, evaluation and development of the
process

- Discuss about quality culture in the organisation


- Explain ways on how the quality culture can be cultivated and developed in the company
- See page 143 - 146

3.3 Recommend improvements which align with the organisations objectives and goals and which result
in improvements

- Analyze the business and look for area/s that need improvement
- Use the fish-bone diagram (cause and effect diagram) to analyze the causes of the problem or
area which needs improvement
- Think of concrete and valid improvements that the organization can apply to its business in
order to solve the problem or improve any area of the business and ensure achievement of its
objectives
- Explain and comprehensively discuss these improvements

3.4 Report on the wider implications of proposed changes within the organization

- Use the PMI and Force Field Analysis in the analysis of implications of the improvements
recommended
- Explain the improvements effect to the company ethics, shareholders, employees, customers,
suppliers, public relations and the environment.

LO 4

4.1 Carry out risk assessments as required by legislation, regulation and organisational requirements
ensuring appropriate action is taken

- Write first a little introduction about risk assessment


- Carry out risk assessment in your respective companies and prepare a risk assessment table with
the following format:
Risk Involved Severity Likelihood Risk Rating Control Measure
- In the identification of risks, identify the type of hazard as discussed during MAAR class, i.e.
physical, chemical, biological, mechanical, electrical, psychological (refer to our lectures)
- Show the levels of severity and levels of likelihood used, i.e. Levels 1 to 3. Refer to our lectures on
risk assessment
- Give the suitable control measures (solution to the risk). Indicate also which of the two types of
controls was used- engineering control and/or administrative control. Refer to our lectures.

4.2 Demonstrate that health and safety regulations and legislation applicable in specific work situations
are correctly and effectively applied

- Cite specific health and safety regulations in UK and Vietnam and explain each of them.
- For the UK Law (refer to the course book). For the Vietnam regulations, make your own research.
- Identify if these government regulations are carried out in your respective companies or not based
on your observations.

4.3 Carry out a systematic review of organisational health and safety policies and procedures in order to
ensure they are effective and compliant

- Based on your interviews and observations, identify the health and safety practices of the
company and compare them to their health and safety policies. Example, do they have a policy
about smoking inside the building? Or policy about overtime work? Or about pregnant workers?
Etc.
- Study if their health and safety policies are complete or lacking based on the health and safety
regulations discussed in the previous task.
- Explain if these policies are effective and compliant to the regulations. If not effective and
compliant, discuss ways how the company can improve their policies and be compliant to the
regulations.

4.4 carry out practical application of health and safety policies and procedures in the workplace.

- Explain ways how there can be health and safety culture in the company. For example,
implement use of checklist and other forms on occupational health and safety to ensure that
health and safety tasks are carried out; monthly meeting by the health and safety officer,
monitoring of and reporting on health and safety, and other ways that will cultivate the health
and safety culture in the company.
- Discuss what could be the health and safety responsibilities of the employees and employers
