Lesson idea implementation:

The video I created incorporated images I found for noncommercial use and a video from the youtube.com
(the link is provided above). The video could be used in a variety of ways in the classroom, such as using the
video as an introduction to an exploration unit, or played during one of many centers about the Lewis and
Clark Expedition. This video could also be uploaded onto a blog and used as a flipped classroom assignment.
For any of these options the students would be graded upon completion of watching the video.

Following watching the video, the teacher could ask higher order thinking questions to get the students
thinking and discussing the Lewis and Clark Expedition. During discussion, the teacher could provide feedback
and keep the discussion focused on the topic. The lesson could be concluded by having the students write and
draw a picture of what they would do if they were a part of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tool critical to the project? Could the project
be completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology,
if any, are going to be used in the learning experience?
Using multimedia authoring tools in the classroom is a great way to deliver information in a new way. Also,
with older students, you can teach them to create their own videos using the iMovie app. Even with younger
students, you can work with each student so they can create their own movie as well. Without using the
video authoring software, I would have had to spend the time going to YouTube to find the video, and then

show each picture individually.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Briefly discuss some possible issues surrounding Internet safety and
student privacy that could arise while implementing this learning experience and explain how you would (1)
minimize risks to students/yourself; (2) alleviate any fears by parents/administrators, and (3) follow common
Internet Safety/Acceptable Use Policies.
Through creating your own movie, especially when it incorporates your students, it is imperative to know
what information each students parent had consented to sharing. As long as FERPA is reviewed before
creating a movie, a can really enjoy creating their own work.
