President Trump, like President Obama before him, point out the low unemployment rate as a measure of success.
What they dont point out are masses of people on welfare via fraudulent disabilities, people in school wasting money in dead-
end retraining exercises, people who have simply given up looking for a job, and people in forced retirement needing Social
Security payments to survive.
A team of researchers from Princeton, the University of Chicago, and the University of Rochester discusses another class of
individuals who are not working but are not counted as unemployed: People, primarily young men who are addicted to
games. For such individuals, games provide a fantasy world that is far more enjoyable than the real world.
Please consider their report on Leisure Luxuries and the Labor Supply of Young Men.
Between 2000 and 2015, market hours worked fell by 203 hours per year (12 percent) for younger men ages 21-30,
compared to a decline of 163 hours per year (8 percent) for men ages 31-55. These declines started prior to the Great
Recession, accelerated sharply during the recession, and have rebounded only modestly since. We use a variety of
data sources to document that the hours decline was particularly pronounced for younger men.

Not only have hours fallen, but there is a large and growing segment of this population that appears detached from
the labor market: 15 percent of younger men, excluding full-time students, worked zero weeks over the prior year as of
2016. The comparable number in 2000 was only 8 percent.

A natural question is how these younger men support themselves given their decline in earnings. We document that
67 percent of non-employed younger men lived with a parent or close relative in 2015, compared to 46 percent in 2000.

One avenue to gauge how younger men perceive their fortunes is to use survey data on happiness. In this spirit, we
complement the patterns in hours, wages, and consumption with data on life satisfaction from the General Social Survey.
We find that younger men reported increased happiness during the 2000s, despite stagnant wages, declining
employment rates and increased propensity to live with parents/relatives. This contrasts sharply with older men,
whose satisfaction clearly fell, tracking their decline in employment.

BINGO!!! Here's a perfect example. I was working at a brand name high tech company. During an interview for a
new position, I was asked "how do you deal with problem males?" (Interesting question in itself - the two HR
women interviewing me are both homely middle-aged Lesbians.)
I simply said "I send over Lisa." Lisa, one of my team members, is (a) beautiful, (b) amazing at reading people,
and (c) has an IQ of about 150. She can wrap an entire roomful of obnoxious techies around her little finger.
After I explained all that, there was dead silence. End of interview.
Next day I get a call from a highly-placed manager. I'm being investigated for "sexual discrimination" and must
see him immediately.
I go into to his office, sit down, tell the whole story. He stares at me, bursts into laughter, says "I did the same
thing when Lisa was on my team."
At yet another tech company, I discovered that a manager was secretly, and very nastily, sexually intimating my
female team members. The girls were too frightened of the man to go to HR. Finally, in tears, they laid it all out
to me. I immediately went to HR with all the details.
HR, which was entirely staffed by women, made preparations to have me fired for raising "offensive sexual
issues." They covertly phoned three different companies that I had previously worked for and grilled prior
managers. Every one of these manager immediately phoned me, recounting the questions they were asked with
gales of laughter. One of them gave the HR bitches a stern lecture for even doubting my integrity.
Of all the departments in EVERY tech company I ever worked for, HR is the most demented, biased, dangerous,
and utterly useless.
I'm an engineer by training. In my trade, intelligence, competence, and honesty are crucial. None of that is EVER
exhibited by HR.

And the welfare and pensions drying up will lead to the same outcome as it did in the post-Soviet era: an
explosion of petty crime and low-wage dead-end "entrepreneurship" that gets written about in the Wall Street
Journal but leaves young guys worse off than a factory job or a career as a police state thug. And technically the
epidemic of unemployed/unemployable and demoralized Russian men drinking themselves into an early grave
came after the end of the USSR.
But the key point here is that, at least when it comes to labor, supply does not create its own demand. And no
amount of hunger (figurative or literal) can change that. You're more likely to end up with a bigger problem of
dropouts and the rest murdering each other over the elite's table scraps.

You could be right but in 70`s/80`s East Germany public drinking instead of showing up for work got you a flat
rate 1 year prison sentence for anti-social behaviour. Many times late for work and being apprehended drunk in
public instead of being at work ONCE was all it took.

Hard to imagine now , but being unemployed was illegal. Accept any shitty job or go to jail.
Fail to show up at your job, better have a good doctor or be in line to be sorted out towards

Another reason why women may be more successful, and less prone to this trend, is because it's easier for them
to find jobs outside the manufacturing sector. Even though many are in the various rackets, like education and

basically said that at her old place or work, the male nurses were subjected to scorn and bullying by the female
nurses. Nothing truly serious, but enough to make it a hostile work environment but yet nothing can ever be
done to stop it as it's easier for management to fire the man and hire another women so the men just smile and
take it.
So, it really is as if men are starting to pay the price for the patriarchy and I now wonder what price is going to be
exacted from this kind of action in the future by these kinds of women so gleeful about getting "payback." More
of a Handmaid's Tale kind of world? That's kind of scary if that is the kind of societal blowback we're marching
ourselves right into. I wish I could say, in that situation, that women get what they deserve for participating in
the erosion of their own long-term interests but I know full blame must be shouldered by ourselves and our
inability to elect proper leaders. Unfortunately, as always, it always the wrong person who pays the price for the
crimes of others.

games 12 hrs a day and sleeping the other 12. The kid breaks my heart. I was hard on him and his internet
addiction to the point he left at 16 yrs old. He has worked maybe 3 months total at 5 different jobs in 3 yrs. Got
him his GED. Got him in College, free ride tuition, books, room and board... lasted 1 1/2 semesters. I wish I could
fix him, can't because he fights tooth and nail against being fixed. Intelligence and smart are not the same. I am
fine with dumbass people, I won't abide a lazy fuck under my roof. Suffer not a man to eat who will not work. The
kid will figure it out one day but the school of hard knocks is not the preferred method.
