entiredrive.

Youcanalsotransferalltheinformationfromyourharddiskdrivetoanotheronebybackingupthe
entireoldharddiskandthenrecoveringthebackuptothenewdisk.

Backupfileformat
AcronisTrueImage2015HDusuallysavesbackupdataintheproprietarytibformatusing
compression.Thisreducestheamountofneededstoragespace.

Whencreatingatibfile,theprogramcalculateschecksumvaluesfordatablocksandaddsthese
valuestothedatabeingbackedup.Thesechecksumvaluesallowfortheverificationofdata

2.2 The difference between file backups and

disk/partition images
Whenyoubackupfilesandfolders,onlythefilesandfoldertreearecompressedandstored.

Disk/partitionbackupsaredifferentfromfileandfolderbackups.AcronisTrueImage2015HDstores
anexactsnapshotofthediskorpartition.Thisprocedureiscalled"creatingadiskimage",or
"creatingadiskbackup"andtheresultingbackupisoftencalled"adisk/partitionimage"or"a
disk/partitionbackup".

Adisk/partitionbackupcontainsallthedatastoredonthediskorpartition:
1. Zerotrackoftheharddiskwiththemasterbootrecord(MBR)(applicabletoMBRdiskbackups
only).
2. Oneormorepartitions,including:
1. Bootcode.
2. Filesystemmetadata,includingservicefiles,fileallocationtable(FAT)andpartitionboot
record.
3. Filesystemdata,includingoperatingsystem(systemfiles,registry,drivers),userdataand
softwareapplications.
3. SystemReservedpartition,ifany.
4. EFIsystempartition,ifany(applicabletoGPTdiskbackupsonly).
BydefaultAcronisTrueImage2015HDstoresonlytheharddisksectorsthatcontaindata.
Furthermore,AcronisTrueImage2015HDdoesnotbackuppagefile.sysunderWindowsXPandlater
andhiberfil.sys(afilethatkeepsRAMcontentswhenthecomputergoesintohibernation).This
reducesimagesizeandspeedsupimagecreationandrecovery.

Youcanchangethisdefaultmethodbyturningonthesectorbysectormode.InthiscaseAcronis
TrueImage2015HDcopiesallharddisksectors,andnotonlythosethatcontaindata.
