Abstrac t: T ests, as a m eans for se lection and pedagog ica l eva luation, should possess qua lities o f fa irness in o rder to
m a inta in and prom ote soc ieta l justice and equa lity. Fa irness covers m any aspects in test deve lopm ent and test use,
thus form ing the v ery foundation on wh ich a test thr ives. The first part o f the paper offe rs a br ie f rev iew of a few w e l-
l
known de finitions o f fairness in tests and the ro le o f fa irness in test developm ent and eva luation. T he second part ex-
am ines the ex isting T EM-re lated studies from the pe rspective of fa irness. A nd the last part discusses how to further
enhance test fa irness in future TEM tests.
