MOVEMENTS

1.1 MOVEMENTS IN AUTOMATIC PARALLELISM MODE

After setting the original position of the drill feed according to the direction of the drift, the only use of the following
movements ensure a perfect parallelism of the holes regardless of the motion of the drill feed.
Boom movements:
boom lift.
boom swing.
boom extension.
drill feed movements:
feed rotation (full 360) around the roll over axis.
feed extension.

1.2 PARALLELISM SETTING

Following movements allow the initial setting of the drill feed.

drill feed tilt.
drill feed swing.
extra tilt (divergency).
These last movements enable the drill feed to be placed at 90 according to the axis of the rollover.
It is the typical position to initiate a cross cutting drift as well as drilling holes for roof bolting.

SCHEMATIC

The operator pulls the control lever of spool .

Oil pressurizes the large chamber of the lift cylinder.

In parallelism mode the two rod end chamber of the boom lift and feed tilt cylinder are connected in closed circuit.
Therefore the area of the two chambers must be equal. This explain the large size of the rod of the boom lift
Parallelism pilot line:
from the rod end side oil is pushed out the lift cylinder.
it enters the safety block to port 7.
oil flows to the rod end side of the feed tilt cylinder through the piloted check valve C7. It gets out the block from
port 8b
Note: due to the large ratio between working area of the lift cylinder, this line is also connected to the safety
relief valve L2. It prevents to over pressurize this line.
That could happen:

if the operator lifts the boom when the feed tilt

RETURN CIRCUIT

From the large chamber of the tilt cylinder , oil flows through the safety valve C8. This valve is maintained
wide open by the pressure from the pilot line.
Finally, oil returns to the tank to port A of the spool .

TRAINING MANUAL- EN 30/03/2005 FS 9 ( 13 )

SCHEMATIC

For specific application it is possible to use the feed tilt individually or during initial set up, by using the spool .

TOP SCHEMATIC

In the example shown, we consider that the boom lift has been operated just beforehand.
Note: if the boom lift movement has been used previously, the line 7t is maintained pressurized. It could keep the
safety valve C8 open.

Line 9 ---> 9t is vented to tank from port 11 through the spool to port A.

POSSIBLE TROUBLE SCHEMATIC BELOW

From the previous situation, the operator wants now to move the feed tilt cylinder (large chamber).
From the feed tilt control , oil is directed to safety block to port 9.
Oil flows to the large chamber of the feed tilt cylinder through the piloted check valve C6 into line 9B.
A trapped pressure keeps the safety valve C8 opened. Line 9B is therefore vented to tank to line 11 returning to
spool .
This valve releases the static pressure in line 7t, therefore valve C8 closes.

SOLUTION : PILOTED-CHECK VALVE C9

In this situation, the purpose of the piloted-operated check valve C9 is to release the trapped pressure in line 7T.
Every times that the operator uses the feed tilt as shown, the incoming pressure opens first the piloted check valve
C9 allowing trapped pressure to release to tank into line 10.

SCHEMATIC

The operator pushes the lever of spool .

Hydraulic pressure circuit:
From port A oil enters the safety block in port 11. It flows freely through valve C8.
Note: the pilot pressure opens the opposite piloted check valve C7.
from outlet port 9b oil is directed to the large chamber of the feed tilt cylinder. It flows free through the safety
valve and its pilot pressure opens the opposite safety valve.
Rod side / rod side hydraulic circuit:
oil, from the rod side of the tilt cylinder, flows through the safety valve, enters the safety block in port 8b.
it flows freely from 8b to the rod side of the lift cylinder through the opened check valve C7.
this line pressurizes the rod side of the lift cylinder and send pilot pressure to the safety valve working on the
large chamber.
From the large chamber return oil runs to the safety valve. A restrictor needle valve allows setting of the speed in
downward motion.
