Chain Saw Carving

Tom Gillman Jr.
Tom Gillman Jr. has been hand carving since he was in high school.
He would visit carving shows as a spectator, read on the art of carving
and join online forums for carvers. Since he has started, he cannot put
the chainsaw down!
Tom carves numerous types of wildlife but his most popular are his
carvings of bears. Other
carvings high up on
the popularity list are
eagles, fish and owls
however; he has always
found that carving any
wildlife piece comes
naturally to him. Other
things Tom has made
for people include
memorials for deceased
family members,
house warming items,
graduation and
birthday gifts and
auction pieces for
charity.
Though Tom had
experiences carving
throughout his life,
his love of chain saw
carving really took off
because of his career
in law enforcement.
He needed an outlet,
something different
from work, something
more positive and he
turned to his craft.
Over the years, he
has competed in many
competitions and been in countless shows across the state. He has been
a carver at the Annual Tri-City Woodcarvers Show for numerous years
and has been a fan favorite at the Saginaw Bay Waterfowl Festival.
The above photo is Tom and some of his work. Be sure to check it out
for yourself at the festival!

Since the beginning, hunting license fees have funded these areas,
but they are open for anyone to visit, use and enjoy most of the year.
Our MWHAs offer access to some of the best waterfowl hunting and
