On A Synthetic Theoretical Framework for
Multimodal Discourse Analysis
Abstract: The present article is intended to set up
a theoretical framework for multimodal discourse
analysis. It first gives a brief survey to studies on
multimodal discourse analysis, and then sets up
a synthetic theoretical framework for multimodal
* discourse analysis on the basis of systemic functional
linguistics. The framework mainly consists of
multimodal discourse systems at five levels: (1) The
