Abstract In the actual design of traffic signboardsimage above and words belowandimage on the left and words on the
rightare ideal patterns of distribution on signboards In the signboards from Road Traffic Signs and Linesthe signboards with
image above and words belowandthe image on the left and words on the rightare predominant in numberand others are
only isolated instances In the common road signboardsthere are more withimage above and words belowandimage on
the left and words on the right Thereforethe images on the upper part and on the left of the signboards are mostly taken
from Road Traffic Signs and Linesand those on the bottom and on the right of the signboards are mostly ordinary images which
have little to do withor are indirectly related totraffic directionswarnings and prohibitions It fully shows the plausibility
and validity of the theory of the grammar of visual design in traffic signboard design
