A Study of Specialized Collocations

Abstract: Specialized collocation is defined as / a str ing of lexical items w hich co- occur in a g rammatical construction w ith mutu-
al expectancy g reater than chance as realizatio n of meaning in specialized tex ts0 . Based on JDEST of Shanghai Jiaotong U niv ersity,
t his study finds that specialized collocations can realize w hat Halliday calls / ideational0 , / tex tual0 and other meanings, and exhibit
strong colligational features.
