instructions contained in this manual must be read and
followed with the Orthopantomograph OP200 D. All
government and local regulations pertaining to radiation
safety must be observed.

NOTE! For USA: Many provisions of these regulations are

based on recommendations of the National Council on
Radiation Protection and Measurements.
Recommendations for dental x-ray protection are
published in NCRP Report #35 available from NCRP
Publications, 7910 Woodmont Avenue, Suite 1016,
Bethesda, MD 20814.

Personal radiation monitoring and protective devices are

available and recommended for staff members. It is also
recommended to provide the patient with a protective
apron. Consult a physician before taking images of
pregnant patients.

OP200 D is equipped with radiation protection in

accordance with IEC601-1-3:1994.

CAUTION! Use of controls or adjustments or performance

of procedures other than those specified herein may result
in hazardous radiation exposure.

1.4.1 Protection by distance

In all examinations the user of the x-ray equipment should

wear protective clothing. The operator does not need to be
close to the patient during normal use. The protection
against stray radiation can be achieved by using the hand
switch not less than 2 m (7 ft) from the focal spot and the x-
ray beam. Operator should maintain visible contact with
the patient and technique factors. This allows immediate
termination of radiation by the release of the exposure
button in the event of a malfunction or disturbance.

5 Digital unit adjustments and calibration

11. Verify the exact x-ray panoramic beam alignment from

the image captured in CLINIVIEWTM. The center line of
the beam should be vertical and the beam should be
centered.
12. The unexposed area at the bottom should be 1-2 mm
high. Unexposed are on the both sides of the beam
should be equally wide. There should be a visible
unexposed area on bottom and top.
13. Take test images also using the panoramic collimator
(P1 lit) and the pediatric panoramic collimator (P2 lit).
Verify that the x-ray beam fits entirely within the
receptor area.

5.2.2 Panoramic beam adjustment with autocollimator

The adjustments are done using the VT aperture. Since the

panoramic apertures are at fixed distances from each
other, the panoramic and pediatric panoramic apertures
are adjusted simultaneously with the VT aperture.

After each adjustment made, check how the beam was

affected by using use the fluorescent tool to get a rough
estimate or a take a test image get more accurate
feedback.

3. Use the left and right buttons in the control panel to
select VT collimation (P11 and P12 are lit).
If default collimation is left active (P1 is lit), images
taken with the VT collimator have a white area in the
top of the image.
4. Adjust the tilt of the beam.
The collimator is held in place with four screws (A) (fig
5.165 and fig 5.166).
Move the sliding assembly horizontally to have access
to all of them.
Loosen completely 3 out of the 4 screws.
Loosen the fourth screw about turn to allow the
collimator assembly to be twisted. Do not loosen the
fourth screw completely to have a better support for
the adjustment.
Adjust the tilt of the beam by rotating the collimator.
Twist the collimator until the beam is vertical and finally
tighten all four screws.

Fig 5.165. Fig 5.166.

5. Adjust the vertical alignment of the beam.

Loosen the two locking screws (L in fig 5.167) and
make adjustments using the vertical alignment screw
(D in fig 5.167).
The unexposed area at the bottom should be 1-2 mm
high.

Tighten the screws (B) when there the unexposed

areas on both sides of the beam are equally wide.

Fig 5.168.

7. Verify that all three panoramic apertures are correctly

aligned by making exposures in Sr 90 Pin using
exposure values 73 kV / 13 mA / 0.1 s and examining
the resulting images in CLINIVIEWTM (see chapter
Panoramic beam check and alignment for details).
8. If the horizontal alignment of the whole collimator slot
was adjusted (as described in step 9), the position
detection plate on the rear side of the collimator needs
to be adjusted.
Enter service program Sr 82 COL to make this
adjustment. See OP200 D Service Program Manual.
Loosen the two screws holding the plate (marked E, fig
5.169).
Adjust the detection plate's horizontal position so that
led H2 (the leftmost) on the collimator board is lit.
Tighten the screws (E).
The status of the collimator board's leds H2-H5 is also
shown on the control panel as led P1-P4 (fig 5.170).
Move the sliding assembly from side to side by hand
and verify that H2 (P1 on the control panel) is lit in all
valid positions and dark in the in-between positions.

Fig 5.169. Fig 5.170.

9. Test drive the collimator to verify that all positions are

found and that the plates holding the sled are not too
tight. Use service program Sr 80 CrL.
Select the autocollimator channel (kV display: "Co"),
one acceleration (mA display: 1), and speed 125% of
nominal (s display: 1.25).

72 Instrumentarium Dental 5139799-100 rev 8

5 Digital unit adjustments and calibration

Start the test drive by pressing and holding the

exposure button until "PASS" or "FAIL" is shown in the
kV and mA displays. Press OK.
Repeat the test two times in each direction. Make sure
that the collimator moves smoothly over the slots and
does not get stuck.
If the collimator makes noise and/or gets stuck while
moving, the upper plate needs to be bent upwards to
reduce force needed to drive the collimator. Bend
uniformly along the plate so that the force needed to
pull the sled bearing out of the upper plate slot is
constant for every slot. Do not bend too much
upwards; the sled must be held tight enough between
the plates to position the collimator reliably.

5.2.3 Image layer check and alignment

1. Clear service program settings by switching the unit
power off and after 5 seconds back on.
2. Remove the bite block (if installed). Insert the ball-pin
tool (p/n 69981).

the screw in the bottom of the collimator plate.

4. Check the horizontal alignment.

- The horizontal alignment is correct when the
unexposed areas on the left and right side of the
exposed area are equally wide within 1 mm (Fig 5.60).
- Set the image contrast to its maximum value (e.g.
Contrast = 100) to get sharp edges to measure from.
Measure the distance from the exposed area to the left
and right border of the image. Be sure to measure both
distances at the same height, close to the middle of
the image (Fig 5.60)!
- After exposure in Sr 91 CIn (A mode), you are
prompted for the distances. Enter the left side distance
(rounded) in the kV field and the right side distance in
the mA field. Press OK to confirm the values. A new
alignment value is automatically calculated (affects the
value shown in Sr 91 CIn, T mode).

5 Digital unit adjustments and calibration

Take a cephalometric image with maximum exposure

values. Indicator led H2 should illuminate all the time
during exposure, but neither H1 nor H3 should illuminate
except shortly after exposure button is pressed. If needed,
follow the steps outlined below to adjust the sensitivity of
the beam alignment board.

Beam alignment board sensors sensitivity adjustment

using copper filter according to IEC 61223-3-4 or
DIN 6868

Beam detection at the secondary collimator is done by

means of three detection channels. The sensitivity of
these channels is adjusted with the trimmers R10, R4
and R16.
A channel is made less sensitive by turning the
corresponding trimmer clockwise and more sensitive
by turning the trimmer counterclockwise.

Adjustments can be made using service program Sr

93 bAL. The program offers two functional modes: in
test mode (T) it positions the unit for adjustment of the
selected channel; in manual mode (M) it performs an
exposure without movements.

NOTE! Sr 93 bAL is in OP200 D software version 2.6 or

up.

NOTE! The three midmost density leds on the control

panel indicate the currently selected channel. During
exposure these leds mirror the status of leds H1, H2 and
H3 on the beam alignment board.

6.2 Dose settings

For optimum patient dose and image quality the initial dose
settings can be verified and set for the OP200 D. These
settings affect the signal to noise ratio of the image. You
can reduce noise level for every program by increasing
dose setting. This, however, increases the dose received
by the patient. Decreasing the dose settings increases
noise but reduces patient dose.

Use program Pr 52 to individually set the dose for each

imaging program, or use the default values. These settings
affect the exposure values used for different pre-
programmed patient sizes. See the OP200 D User
Program Manual for details.

You can also change the contrast and brightness of the

image with the CLINIVIEWTM software after an exposure.
Refer to the Installation & User Manual for CLINIVIEWTM
for further information on image manipulations.

9.2 Unpacking instructions

See chapter 4.3 Digital Cephalostat installation (optional).
Follow the steps from end to beginning.

9.3 Counter weight

To compensate the additional weight of the OC200 D
cephalostat unit, additional trim weights have to be
installed to the column.

9.3.1 Adding trim weights

1. Switch on the unit power.
2. Adjust the carriage to its highest position by
pressing the up button on the patient
positioning panel.

Now the counter weight is at the bottom of

the column and it is possible to reach the
counter weight through the opening behind
the column.

Fig 9.281.

3. Switch off the unit power.

4. Remove the counter weight hatch cover behind the
column.

9 Appendix C, Cephalostat upgrade

NOTE! If the space is limited behind the column, the

adding of trim weights may become difficult or impossible.
Then it is recommended first to tilt the OP200 D 45 to the
side to give more space. This is possible when the wall
mounted column is bolted to the floor only from the rear
center hole.

NOTE! Column must be mounted with the wall mount

bracket when the unit is upgraded with the cephalostat.

5. OP200 D models have M8 threads for trim weights in

the counter weight assembly. Unscrew the M8
threadbar nuts and washers.

Fig 9.284.

WARNING! Beware of cutting hazard with sharp edges

when the carriage is lifted up and the servicing plate is
removed.

6. Add trim weights until there are 24 pcs large weights.

Add on the top one steel plate with plastic guides.
Screw on the M8 nuts and washers back to the
threadbars. Check that neither the trim weights nor the
steel plate with plastic guides do not inhibit the
counterweight movement.

cephalostat arm.
9. Remove the counter weight security bolt.
10. Install sensors and all covers, except the
counterweight hatch cover. Note, that some of the
covers need to be removed during the beam
adjustments.
11. Make movement tests. Drive the carriage assembly up
and down and check that the vertical movement speed
is equal in both directions. If not, add or remove trim
weights to balance the counterweight. Install the
counterweight hatch cover.
12. Adjust the carriage vertically straight by adjusting four
screws on both sides of the column. Gap between
carriage and column should be equal on both sides of
the unit.
