IN PAG-ASA NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

Chapter I

The Problem and Its Background

Introduction

Poverty is about not having enough money to meet basic

needs such as food, clothing, and shelter. Poverty is not

having access to school and they cant afford human

resources and school needs.

One of the effect of poverty to the students in Pag-

asa National High School is they stop studying because

they lack on things needed in school and in financial

resources. Because of that they cannot perform well in

school and it may cannot perform well in school and it

may cause low grades and some of the students who are

poor. Sometimes the students who are poor, are the center

of bullying, and they are ashamed to perform well in

school.

This research reviewed a wide range of literature and

qualitative information about the relationship between

family income, the adolescents decision to stay in

education beyond the age of 16 about and his/her levels

of education attainment in Pag-asa National High School,

which has huge implication for inequalities in

educational outcomes.

Theoretical Framework

Reardon and Vosti, (1995) observed that the

discourse the poverty environment needed a new framework

with a more strategy understanding of the complexity of

the issue. Their aim was to differentiate types of

environmental change and to show the household behavior

determinants of the environment poverty link. They also

gave emphasis on demonstrating how the household behavior

is continued by the policy and other intervening factors

which so often had been neglected. Although the link

between poverty and environment already became an issue

of discussion a long with the debate on sustainable

development, research trying to grasp this link achieved

indecisive result. The original Malthusian argument was

that poor peasants of developing countries over exploit

their environment out of sheer necessity, and the

ensuring degradation further aggravates poverty. The

extension of this line of thought was that this vicious

circle could be reversed that poverty alleviation would

automatically reduce environmental degradation and that

reducing environmental degradation would alleviate

poverty. Neither argument received much empirical

support. Poverty was not found to be the sole cause of

environmental destruction nor did increasing incomes

guarantee improved environmental quality. The traditional

approach seemed narrow to Thomas Reardon and Stephen A.

Vosti. The concept of poverty and environmental change

had been approached as one-dimensional internally

homogenous phenomena which they were clearly for from the

strength and symmetry of the causal links between poverty

and environment had been left out of the discussion and

not household economics and food security strategies

pertinent to the environment poverty link. Therefore the

possible link between poverty and the environment could

not be grasped with the traditional concepts.

Statement Of The Problem

Education is significant for every student to become

successful in their future life. But poverty is the main

reason why students stop studying. Their family cannot

afford enough money and human resources. This research

generally determines the impact of poverty to the

performance of every students of Pag-asa National High

School. And specifically it seeks answers to the following

questions?

1. How many students classify themselves as a poor?

2. How does poverty affect the performance of student in

Pag-asa National High School?

3. In what aspects do the students failed because of

poverty?

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY

The purpose of the study is to inform the teachers,

public people, student of Pag-asa and the government

about the impact of poverty to the performance of the

student who study in Pag-asa National High School. And

for us to know the situation of the students in Pag-asa

National High School. How poverty makes them sacrifice in

their daily lives. And inform the teachers about the

reason of students of why they cannot perform well in

class and the reason why they cannot pass the projects.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This research is beneficial to the following:

For us a Research it help us to determine how our

fellow students sacrifice because of poverty and to know

the situation of their studying inside the classroom.

This research is beneficial to the students of Pag-asa

National High School who commits in poverty for them to

know how they can handle the impact of poverty. How they

overcome when they experience poverty. It is beneficial

to the teacher in order to them to take advantage and

give consideration to the student who experience poverty.

It is beneficial to the school administration it helps

them to help and give even a small support to the

students who experience poverty. It helps to the

municipality of Bansud to think a programs for the poor

family gives a job for the parents of the students. So as

their children did not suffer in poverty.

DIFINITION OF TERMS

POVERTY. The states of being poor.

QUALITATIVE. Of or relating to how good something is.

INEQUALITY. An unfair situation in which some people have

more rights or better opportunities than other people.

PHILOSOPHY. The study of ideas about knowledge, truth,

the nature and meaning of life.

COPE. A long, loose piece of clothing that is worn by a

priest on special occasions.

ACCOUNTABLE. Required to explain actions or decisions to

someone

REITERATED. To repeat something you have already said in

order to emphasize it.

OVERLAPPING. To lie over the edge of something.

DEPRIVATION. The state of not having something that

people need.

AMENITIES. Something that makes life easier or more

pleasant.

VULNERABILITY. Easily hurt or harmed physically,

mentally, or emotionally.

ALLEVIATION. To reduce the pain or trouble.

MALTHUASIAN. Relating to Malthus or this theory that

population tends to increase at a faster rate that it

means of subsistence and that unless it is check by moral

restraint or disaster widespread poverty and degradation

inevitably revolt.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This study is limited to the following scope.

It focuses on the impact of poverty to the performance of

the students in Pag-asa National High School. The profile

of the students is included in this research. The

students who experience poverty and the facilities and

Pag-asa National High School is use. The respondents in

this study are __ Female __ Male. This study is limited

to the impacts of poverty experience by the students and

how they carry the impact of poverty in their lives.

Chapter II

Review Of Related

Foreign Studies

Williams (2015) said that poverty is prevalent through

the United States and can impact an individuals childhood

following them into adolescence. The purpose of this

project is to look at the impact poverty has on

adolescents experience at school according to school

social workers. Using a qualitative design, seven school

social workers. Were interviewed regarding poverty in

relation into their adolescent students experiences at

school the interviews were transcribed and coded into

themes and sub themes. The emerging themes correlated with

the literature. The finding showed themes of adolescents

living in poverty, academic, social and emotional

experiences to be key experiences school social workers see

with poverty stricken adolescents.

FergusanPhd, Bovaird MPH and Mueller Phd explained

that over that past decades, the unfortunate reality is

that the income gap has wide between Canadian families.

Educational outcomes are one of the key areas influenced by

family incomes. Children from low income families often

start school already behind their papers who come from more

affluent families as shown in measures of school readiness.

The incidence depth, duration and timing of poverty all

influence a childs education attainment, along with

community characteristic and social networks. However both

Canadian and internationals interventions have shown that

the effect of poverty can be reduced using sustainable

interventions. Pediatricians and family doctors have many

opportunities to influence readiness for school and

educational success in primary care settings.

LOCAL STUDIES

Reyes, Tabuga, Asis and Vondez (2014) reiterated that

the remarkable economic performance of the Philippines in

recent years, poverty remains a core policy issue. And with

a relatively young populations, the poverty situation

concern largely children who are at the critical stages of

their physical, mental, and social development. This report

provides a comprehensive profile of children who are living

in poverty through data collected from national survey and

administrative record of government agencies. The

estimations shown that in 2009 13.4 million or over a third

of all children aged below 18 are living below the poverty

line. Both the incidence and magnitudes of poor children

are increasing through years moreover; around 10 million

face at least two overlapping types severe deprivation in

basic amenities while an estimated three quarters of a

million face at least five kinds of deprivation

simultaneously. Although these children can be found in the

different regions in the country, several areas that

consistently log behind in many poverty aspects have been

identifies. Meanwhile, longitudinal data shows that a non-

negligible number of families move in and out of poverty

and this vulnerability pose risks of children wellbeing.

With the recent trend in population growth, the lack of

inductivity of economic growth, and the exposure of the

country to natural calamities, we would expect that the

number of children in condition would not be significantly

reduce within the next few years.

Foreign Literature

Goebel (2009) Goebel points out those students from

poverty are labeled as disruptive or out of control. The

use of the multiple intelligences could be used bridge the

educational gap that exists for these students require

teacher to connect with the students to understand their

learning styles and innate abilities. It will also require

teachers to release responsibility to the students in the

form of choices that allow the student autonomy to create

an outcome.

Langille Hoope et al (2009) this study exposed a

number of biases that exist among the very people who

dedicate their lives to serving the poor. Many service

providers (Verbalized) a belief that poverty of spirit that

exists among their clients. In interviews providers

verbalized a belief that poverty may be a symptom of not

being in a relationship with god or Jesus. It was as if a

judgment had been passed from above that kept people in a

cycle of poverty. Ironically this perception is not

supported by empirical data in any way. (Langille Hoppe.

Et al) this belief is a reflection of the cultural rhythm

of the region but it is still somewhat surprising given the

perception that many social workers have a liberal word

view.

Local Literature

Payne (2003) the focus of this philosophy will not be

punishes and forgives. Instead it would focus on helping

students to develop skill to avoid being in trouble in the

future while still holding them accountable for behavior.

Payne suggests giving the students examples of choices that

would be more appropriate in the future. By asking students

questions about their behavior choices and focusing on

problem solving the students will begin to see their other

choices that can be made in the future. The teacher may

even have the student decide how they will react to a

particular situation in the future.

Solomon(1996)

Its hard to believe that is true. Another way of

saying it would be that students who need engaging lessons

the most are receiving them the least. Perhaps it would be

better to say that students who are in the greatest need of

good instruction receive it less than their counterparts.

It is generally accepted that the must important factor in

student achievement is the teacher in the classroom.

Synthesis:

The impact of poverty to the performance of the

students in Pag-asa National High School. Poverty is

prevalent it can impact an individuals childhood following

them into adolescence. Poverty is about having enough money

to support all human resources. The impact of poverty to

the performance of the student they cannot perform well in

school as a result of their drop. Fergusan Phd and other

doctors explained that over that past decades the

unfortunate reality is that the income gap has wide between

families. According to Gocbel (2009) Hz points out those

students from poverty are often labeled disruptive or out

of control. In this related studies you can read how the

study define the impact of poverty to the performance of

students.

CHAPTER III

METHOLOGY

Research Design:

This search was used to measure that the impact

of poverty to the performance of the students inside the

class room in Pag-asa National High School. Research was

the collection tool that was utilized. These statement

generally had a negative connotation so the students are

agreeing or disagreeing with negative statements about the

impact of poverty to the performance of students. The

students choose to say the negative impact of poverty for

them. The independent variable in this research is the

student and the dependent variable is the teachers.

Population and Sampling:

The population of our study is the Grade 7

Neptune and Grade 8 Diamond. 7 Neptune composedly of 20

males and 31 females for the total of 51 students and

Grade 8 Diamond composedly of 14 males and 26 females for

the total of 40.50% for every classroom will be our sample.

Data Gathering Procedure:

The data of this research were collected using a

survey questionnaire. The survey was created using

appropriate questions revised from this research. All these

questions are formed by the researchers. The survey was

comprised 10 questions related to the impact of poverty to

the performance of the students in Pag-asa National High

School. These were distributed to the student of grade 7

and grade 8 and their advisers. The researcher give the

students and their teacher to respond.

Statistical Treatment of Data:

Survey result will be described in a descriptive

study. The result will be analyzed and used to inform the

readers of this research paper about the impact of poverty

to the performance of the students in Pag-asa National High

School. This research made to help teachers to know the

impact of poverty to their students.

Respondent of the study:

The respondents of this research are the students

start from Grade 7 to Grade 8. Who experience the impact of

poverty to their lives and all the advisers of Grade 7 and

Grade students.

Research Instrument:

Due to this study is being qualitative research, the

data collected base on individual interviews conducted with

students who are experience the impact of poverty to the

student of Pag-asa National High School and also the

advisers of Grade 7 and Grade 8 star section students. The

impact of poverty to their performance.

The instrument that were used to this study is

questionnaire and interview to the students who experience

the impact of poverty of Grade 7and Grade 8 and advisers.

There are set of questions for them questions view the

information such as name, sex, age, profession and address.

The interview was answered all these questions.

Q1. What are the common impacts of poverty to the students?

Q2. How they can handle the impact of poverty to their

lives?

Q3. What are the perceptions of teachers about the impact

of poverty to the students?
