3.1 Classroom Management & Collaborative Learning

Candidates model and facilitate effective classroom management and collaborative learning
strategies to maximize teacher and student use of digital tools and resources. (PSC 3.1/ISTE 3a)

The attached artifact is a lesson plan that was created using the ISTE lesson plan template for
integrating technology into the classroom that I created during the ITEC 7430 course. This
assignment was completed individually. The assignment required me to implement at least 3
technology tools into a lesson that I had previously researched. The lesson plan template required
me to align the lesson with the ISTEs technology standards and the local and state content
standards. The lesson plan is very detailed and includes the components necessary for integrating
technology effectively.

This artifact demonstrates my mastery of standard 3.1 because it shows my ability to model and
facilitate effective classroom management and collaborative learning strategies to maximize
teacher and student use of digital tools and resources. The lesson plan not only aligned with the
ISTE standards but also the standards given to me by Gwinnett County Public Schools. This
lesson was research-based because I had to research to gain better understanding of multiple
agencies and their role in the classroom, and how to engage students in the classroom. This
lesson focused on reviewing previous material that we had learned in our Civil War unit by
requiring the students to create a Google Map Tour or a Virtual timeline noting the key events,
places, and people from the Civil War. The lesson was student-centered by accommodating the
various needs of my students by allowing them to guide their own learning. The students also
worked in groups to collaborate using tools like discussion boards. Students were also
familiarized with the tools that they were using beforehand by the teacher modeling proper use
of these tools, tutorial videos, as well as a mini assignment. The project met the diversity of all
students by letting them guide their research through the project and giving them choice on the
outcome of how to present their project.

I learned through this experience how to plan an effective lesson plan that involved technology
by using the ISTE lesson plan template. I learned how to create a student learning experience
that offers multiple intelligences of the students in my class. This assignment also taught me the
importance of using research based strategies to make sure that the student level of engagement
was met and that classroom management is in place. To improve this lesson in the future I will
allow for more time for the students to work on the project. Towards the end of the project the
students were rushed to provide peer feedback which was an important part of the assignment.

The lesson plan created impacted student learning. The students were required to make quality
projects using the digital tools that were provided to them. The student were engaged and

motivated to create a quality project for their peers to review. The impact of this lesson can be
assessed through local, county, or state level test results drilled down to the standard level.
