Poweristransferredthroughthedifferentialbythepinion,thepinions,andthesidegears.Thesidegearsare
splinedtotheaxleshafts.RefertoSystemsOperation,"Differential"formoreinformationaboutthe
differential.

Theaxlealsocontainsthedifferentiallock.RefertoSystemsOperation,"DifferentialLock".

Poweristransferredthroughthedifferentialtotheaxleshafts.Thepowerpassesthroughservicebrakes.

Thepowerentersthefinaldrives.Eachfinaldrivehasthesamecomponents.Thefinaldrivescausethelast
speedreductionandthelasttorqueincreaseinthedrivetrain.

applied,thebrakepistons(7)pushthebrakeplates(8)againstthefrictiondiscs(9).Thiscausesfriction.The
frictioncausesthewheelstoturnataslowerrateorstop.Thebrakepiston(7)isheldinplacebythepins.
Whenthebrakepedalisreleased,thespringsonthepinsforcethebrakepiston(7)awayfromthebrake
plates(8).Thisactionreleasesthebrakesontheaxle.

(15)aremountedinthecarrier(1).Thecarrier(1)isboltedtotheflange(11).Theflange(11)rotatesonthe
housing(12)withtwoopposingtaperedrollerbearings.

Thepoweristransferredthroughthesungear(13)totheplanetarygears(15).Theplanetarygears(15)
revolvearoundtheinsideoftheringgear(14).Themovementoftheplanetarygears(15)aroundthering
gear(14)causesthecarrier(1)andflange(11)torotate.Poweristransferredfromtheflange(11)tothe
wheel.
