"To take a life when a life has been lost is revenge, not justice.

"

-Desmond Tutu

Good morning I am going to talk about a controversial issue in the death penalty.

The death penalty or capital punishment is one of the largest definitive sanctions consisting in
causing death a sentenced person from the State, as a punishment for the violation of rights or
established laws; them crimes of which is applying this sanction often called is "offenses capital.

This process has existed since ancient times, throughout history and in the middle ages in which the
offenses considered to be egregious, did not deserve more than a single sentence: the death penalty
was applied to those who were considered by the State as the most dangerous. Also at the time
when the Europeans arrived in America there was also law the death penalty, by the Holy
Inquisition.

There were many means of execution, such as hanging, stoning, strangulation, burning, crucified or
poisoning, but currently the most used methods are: the electric chair, gas, lethal injection or firing
squad.

In the last decades seemed that the penalty of death is applied in countries with a regime de-facto
or with ideologies religious opposite to the Christianity, nothing more wrong is applied and is applied
in countries of all condition social, political, religious, economic etc. etc.

Since 1979, more than 70 countries have abolished the penalty of death for all crimes or for ordinary
crimes. More than 130 States have abandoned the death penalty, by law or practice and only a few
Governments are still carrying out executions every year.

Many people must be in favor or against this, but, Does the death penalty provide justice or create
violence? I invite you to reflect on this issue. Thank you.
