ABOUT ATNS

Air Traffic and Navigation Services SOC Limited (ATNS) provides air
traffic, navigation, training and associated services within South Africa.
ATNS is responsible for Air Traffic Control throughout South Africa and
a large part of the Southern Indian and Atlantic Ocean, comprising
approximately 10% of the worlds airspace. ATNS operates from 9 ACSA
and 12 other aerodromes. As a globally competitive employer of choice,
ATNS is committed to diversity and has achieved ranking within the top
ten companies in South Africa with regards to female representation
at executive levels.

Our vision
To be the preferred supplier of Air Traffic Management solutions and
associated services to the African Continent and selected international
markets.

Our mission
To provide safe, expeditious and efficient Air Traffic Management
solutions and associated services.

Our services extend beyond Air Traffic Control services into the provision
of vitally important aeronautical information used for all flight planning
purposes as well as search and rescue coordination activities, and the
maintenance of a reliable navigation infrastructure.
WHAT IS AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION
MANAGEMENT?

According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO),

aeronautical information comprises both dynamic and static data
enabling safe navigation of aircraft and data for pilots, Air Traffic
Controllers and flight procedure designers.

Dynamic information changes at short notice outside defined AIRAC

dates and takes the form of Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) and pre-flight
information bulletins (PIB). Static data is common to civil aviation
documented in Aeronautical Information Publications (AIP), AIP
supplements and other related documents.

ATNSS AERONAUTICAL INFORMATION

MANAGEMENT (AIM)

AIM has mainly been a paper-based environment in the aviation industry.

As part of the move towards Performance-based Navigation (PBN),
ICAO has mandated that the traditional product-centric provision of
Aeronautical Information be replaced by a data-centric and system-
oriented solution.

Through AIM, timeous and quality data is made available permanently

and dynamically for use in applications such as flight planning,
navigation, separation assurance, collaborative decision making (CDM)
or any other strategic or tactical Air Traffic Management (ATM) activity.

ATNS, through its AIM systems, is able to offer this same provision to
states that do not have the capacity to transition to an automated and
electronic AIM. ATNS is able to create all required aeronautical
documentation, including NOTAM, PIB and AIP.
SAFETY AND INNOVATION IN AIM

In order to safely navigate, data is an essential component. ATNS is on

target with the AIS to AIM roadmap, and have implemented the Quality
Management System (QMS). ATNS has established itself as a leader
in the field of directing regional offices and is the first African
organisation to implement the electronic system, having introduced a
Central Aeronautical Database similar to the European Database (used
by NavCanada and Australia).
