It may be satisfactory for predicting their steady-state thermal
performance (although many designers have reason to doubt it);
but it is certainly not satisfactory for determining locations of
high velocity likely to cause tube vibrations,
low velocity where deposition of solids may occur;
deviations from presumed-uniform heat-transfer coefficients;
or
time-dependent effects..
