Engine Oil Coolers - Remove... 3612 and 3616 Engines Caterpillar

Removal Procedure

NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.

NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting,
and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or
disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Cat products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual,
"Cooling System Coolant (ELC) - Change".

2. Drain the engine oil from the engine oil coolers into a suitable container for storage or for disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance
Manual, "Engine Oil - Change".

3. Disconnect the harness assembly for the engine oil temperature sensor from the engine oil cooler.

4. Remove tube assembly (1) .

5. Remove tube assembly (4) .

6. Remove tubes (2) and (3) .

7. If equipped, remove the bolt that holds clamp (7) to the oil cooler bonnet or the oil filters. Move the clamp away from the engine oil
cooler.

8. Remove elbow (9). Remove tube (5) .

9. Remove tube (8) .

10. Disconnect tube (10) from the oil cooler bonnet. Remove the O-ring seal from the flange.

Note: The electrical connections and other variations in the models could require additional removals or disconnections before the
component is removed.

11. Attach a suitable lifting device to engine oil coolers (6). The weight of engine oil coolers (6) is approximately 263 kg (580 lb). Remove the
bolts that hold engine oil coolers (6) to the engine oil filters. Remove engine oil coolers (6) .
