NOTES ON NAMES
These names are a collection of Gaelic, Celtic and mythological names from the British Isles (including
Ireland). Dallas was a popular cross-gender name (it means wise); Africa (or variations of it; named for
the continent), according to several sources, was popular as a ladys name in the Middle Ages as well.
The name Doctor was probably inherited from the Latin docere (to teach or to show) and the name Doctor
implies a learned scholar, not a medical examiner. Mc[whatever] as first name; it did happen and still
does today (McDonald Carey was a actor in Commanche Territory, 1950). As always, if you do not like a
name (i.e. Dallas makes me think of Texas and it just cant be right), do not use it.
PLACES AS SURNAMES
In the Terra Ferax campaign, each map guide has a Where Do I Come From section, which will
allow you to localize to that specific campaign map. The table below assumes you are using historic Earth
as a background.
The following list provides some of the current places in the United Kingdom of which were in
existence in the Middle Ages (Limmerick, Dublin, etc.). However, verifying that each and every one of
these places was indeed in existence in the Middle Ages is beyond the scope this work.
The first d00 is for random determination of country and place; the second d00 is for places if you
know which country you come from.
