Passing FL120 in descent, give an ATC restriction: CROSS FL100 AT 200 KNOTS.
Show the difficulty to reduce speed and descend at the same time. Use speed-brake to assist.
VLS decrease to approx. 230kt so speedbrake must be progressively retracted to be able to reach 200kt.
LANDING CONFIGURATION
Maintain FL80. Plan to reach 3DME AGN with FLAPS 2 (~6D AGN), then configure to landing configuration.
Maintain VAPP (135kt).
10 INTRODUCTION TO GO-AROUND
In LDG CONFIG over AGN VOR, adjust power to descent to FL50 at approx 800fpm. Give headings 5-15
left and right. Check and adjust as required the 3 descent flight path using ALT / DME (e.g. 5DME AGN
FL65). At FL50 initiate a Go-Around; retract Gear and one step of Flaps. Emphasis on TOGA and Attitude
management. Accelerate to 250kt when crossing FL65 and continue climb to FL80 whilst turning 25 angle
outbound TOU VOR.

Level-off at 5,000ft 250kt. Inbound track. Start at 25DME. (~9NM)
Configure to landing configuration approach speed, then descend to 3,000ft. Do not use speed-brake.
Note using speed-brake to aid deceleration will reduce these distances by 40%.
30
GO-AROUND
Go-around. Clean up and climb to 5,000ft.
DESCENT PROFILE 3
Level-off at 5,000ft 250kt. Inbound track. Start at 25DME. (~7NM)
Commence descent to 3,000ft using the FULL/HALF speed-brake as required to assist. Level off 3,000ft
and configure to landing configuration approach speed.
Retract speed-brake (pitch down effect after retraction) when Gear is selected down.
More anticipation is required to adjust the thrust. Note total distance required.

CLIMB TO FL310
MARSEILLE CONTROL: CLIMB AND MAINTAIN FL310=
Resume a normal climb to FL310 at 300kt-M.78 and proceed direct to MOU VOR after ALURA.
Note the TAS / MACH crossover altitude and very poor performance close to the OPT FL / MAX ALT.
Make a level turn at 25 Bank angle. Note the speed margin decreases. Do not adjust thrust.
Attempt to increase bank angle towards 40. Observe reduced maneuver margin.
Avoid speed to decrease into amber strip. Do not adjust thrust.
10 Wings level, set CLB = MCT = TOGA thrust ~92.5% N1 to recover M.78. Note the lack of performance to
accelerate due to the drag curve. Handling option descend to reach cruise speed M.78.
Let the trainee to fly and stabilize at FL350 M.78.
Engage AP/FD ON. Turn inbound MOU VOR using the MCDU DIR TO Function. Point out how the automation
works at high altitude (~15 bank angle). Adjust thrust ~89% to maintain speed. Note the turn radius.
Teaching point: hand flying / excessive maneuvering is not recommended at high altitude. Point out speed is
easy to lose but hard to gain at high altitude. Avoid amber speed.

RULES OF THUMB Issue 12 SEP 2014
FLIGHT CREW TRAINING PROGRAM
The following is given as guidance to help with the flow of the lessons and the accuracy of the students
hand flying.
AFS: During the Jet Familiarization phase, all take-offs are performed with the FDs OFF. The use of
AP/FD with selected modes will be progressively introduced throughout the course in order to reinforce
the task sharing concept when utilizing automation.
AUTO-THRUST (A/THR): All sessions are conducted with the A/THR OFF. The Instructor will disconnect
the A/THR by pressing and holding the Instinctive Disconnect push-Button (IDB) for 15 seconds when the
engines are running. This will prevent the auto-thrust from engaging unexpectedly.
CLEAN UP: Above the acceleration altitude set target speed 250kts, set climb thrust and 75 N.U. Select
Flap 1 above F speed. Select Flap 0 above S speed. Accelerate to 250kts. Adjust pitch approx. 11 N.U.
for climbing speed 250kt.
DECELERATION: At IDLE thrust in level flight, deceleration from 250kt to VAPP (135kt) takes about 6
miles with successive changes of configuration. GD+10 select CONF1, S+10 select CONF2, then GEAR
Down, CONF3 and FULL. Plan to level off ~3 miles from HOLDING Fix to decelerate from 250kt to GD.
FUEL: Select fuel freeze option on Instructor console for JET FAM sessions.
FMS: Insert the bare minimum required for JET FAM sessions. Set FROM/TO; Departure runway with no
SID; F-PLN discontinuity and the arrival with an ILS no STAR. This works well and ensures the FMS
sequences by itself.
HEADING Correction: Use a bank angle equal to one-half the difference between the present heading
and the desired heading. e.g. if off 10 on heading, use 5 degrees of bank to correct back to desired
heading.
LEVEL OFF Procedure: Leveling off by 10 % of V/S rate (Above FL300, use 500 feet).
LEVEL FLIGHT LOW LEVEL (56 tons): 250kts / FL70 = approx. 2.5 degrees nose up and 64 % N1. In the
circuit (56 tons): GD speed, 196kts = 5.5 NU 56 % N1. S speed, 179kts = 7 NU 58 % N1. F2 speed +
L/G DN 138kts = 8 NU 65 % N1.
LEVEL TURN LOW LEVEL: 25 degrees AOB / approx. 3 degrees NU / N1 target +2%
NAVAIDS: Students will be taught how to use the MCDU RAD NAV Page and to set the NAVAIDS.
PERFORMANCE: Take-off speeds with FLEX/TOGA will be calculated by the student using the
appropriate RTOW tables (ELT JET/MCC training course only).
PITCH (Attitude) Changes: Mach x 1,000 or TAS / 0.6 = V/S fpm for 1 pitch change. E.g. if cruising at
Mach 0.8: 0.8 x 1,000=800fpm or at FL70 - 250kts IAS (278kt TAS) = 460fpm for 1 pitch change.
SOPs: Cockpit preparations are performed as per Airbus TRANSIT STOP Procedures (Items marked
by *). The Normal Flight Deck preparation will be introduced later in the Type Rating course.
STEEP TURNS: FL 70 250kt requires ~ 4 NU pitch and 68 % N1 to maintain a level 45 bank turn.
