FLIGHT CREW TRAINING PROGRAM

02 - SIMULATOR HANDLING TIPS

The following is given as guidance to help with the flow of the lessons and the accuracy of the students
hand flying.

AFS: During the Jet Familiarization phase, all take-offs are performed with the FDs OFF. The use of
AP/FD with selected modes will be progressively introduced throughout the course in order to reinforce
the task sharing concept when utilizing automation.

AUTO-THRUST (A/THR): All sessions are conducted with the A/THR OFF. The Instructor will disconnect
the A/THR by pressing and holding the Instinctive Disconnect push-Button (IDB) for 15 seconds when the
engines are running. This will prevent the auto-thrust from engaging unexpectedly.

CLEAN UP: Above the acceleration altitude set target speed 250kts, set climb thrust and 75 N.U. Select
Flap 1 above F speed. Select Flap 0 above S speed. Accelerate to 250kts. Adjust pitch approx. 11 N.U.
for climbing speed 250kt.

DECELERATION: At IDLE thrust in level flight, deceleration from 250kt to VAPP (135kt) takes about 6
miles with successive changes of configuration. GD+10 select CONF1, S+10 select CONF2, then GEAR
Down, CONF3 and FULL. Plan to level off ~3 miles from HOLDING Fix to decelerate from 250kt to GD.

FUEL: Select fuel freeze option on Instructor console for JET FAM sessions.

FMS: Insert the bare minimum required for JET FAM sessions. Set FROM/TO; Departure runway with no
SID; F-PLN discontinuity and the arrival with an ILS no STAR. This works well and ensures the FMS
sequences by itself.

HEADING Correction: Use a bank angle equal to one-half the difference between the present heading
and the desired heading. e.g. if off 10 on heading, use 5 degrees of bank to correct back to desired
heading.

LEVEL OFF Procedure: Leveling off by 10 % of V/S rate (Above FL300, use 500 feet).

LEVEL FLIGHT LOW LEVEL (56 tons): 250kts / FL70 = approx. 2.5 degrees nose up and 64 % N1. In the
circuit (56 tons): GD speed, 196kts = 5.5 NU 56 % N1. S speed, 179kts = 7 NU 58 % N1. F2 speed +
L/G DN 138kts = 8 NU 65 % N1.

LEVEL TURN LOW LEVEL: 25 degrees AOB / approx. 3 degrees NU / N1 target +2%

NAVAIDS: Students will be taught how to use the MCDU RAD NAV Page and to set the NAVAIDS.

PERFORMANCE: Take-off speeds with FLEX/TOGA will be calculated by the student using the
appropriate RTOW tables (ELT JET/MCC training course only).

PITCH (Attitude) Changes: Mach x 1,000 or TAS / 0.6 = V/S fpm for 1 pitch change. E.g. if cruising at
Mach 0.8: 0.8 x 1,000=800fpm or at FL70 - 250kts IAS (278kt TAS) = 460fpm for 1 pitch change.

ROLL-OUT Procedure: HEADING TO GO = BANK () / 3

With 25 degrees of bank, start roll-out at 8 degrees in advance.

SOPs: Cockpit preparations are performed as per Airbus TRANSIT STOP Procedures (Items marked
by *). The Normal Flight Deck preparation will be introduced later in the Type Rating course.

STEEP TURNS: FL 70 250kt requires ~ 4 NU pitch and 68 % N1 to maintain a level 45 bank turn.
