Guitar II- Final Project

Learn and record a song! - (your pick)


Follow the steps below (optional) & use the links and materials that are provided to guide you in
learning your song
1) Prepare:

Read through the Final Project Packet


Listen to your assigned song using the provided link
FIll out your chord diagram sheet for each chord used in your song (Look up any unknown chords
& add them to your chord diagram sheet)
Write out your chord progression (if desired)

2) Practice Suggestions:

Play each chord several times so that you are comfortable with all of the chords in your song
(muscle memory exercises -spend more time practicing new chords & barre chords)- Also, play
arpeggios of each chord to make sure each string is resonating properly
Isolate and practice challenging chord transitions (slowly, gradually getting faster; muscle-
memory)
Practice your song in sections (verse, chorus, bridge...etc.)- start slowly & gradually work up to
the tempo of the youtube video
Figure out and practice a strumming/picking pattern that is appropriate for the style of your song
Practice transitions between sections, and practice your song as a whole (beginning-end)
Refer to the playing evaluation rubric- practice your song with all of the grading criteria in mind
3) Record:

You will be assigned a performance/recording day (during class).


Students from a video recording class will record you as you perform your song along with the
recording. Time is limited, so you can only use the time allotted to you.
4) Reflect:

Using the Playing Evaluation Rubric in this packet, rate your performance from your recording
Thoughtfully fill out the Written Reflection using complete sentences -be specific
Grading
1. Performance Recording of your song (100 points)
2. Playing Evaluation Rubric self-assessment (10 points)
3. Written Reflection (25 points)
Extra Credit Options (10 extra points):
Sing & play your song (with or without the audio from the original) in your recording
Play the melody (or solo) for your song in an additional recording
