Pasig River was once a beautiful river which can be describe as pure, splendid, and breathtaking.

It connects Laguna de Bay to Manila Bay. Pasig River used to be an important transport route and
source of water during the Spanish Era. It was Manilas lifeline and center of economic activity.
Due to the carelessness of the people and industrial changes the river has become very polluted.
Ecologist announced that the Pasig River is biologically dead.

Even though Pasig River is biologically dead, there are still some possible ways to save it. During
the past years, the government proposed some plans regarding the clean up of the Pasig River.
One of these is the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) which was created in January
1999 by virtue of Executive Order No. 54, as amended by Executive Order No. 65 to guarantee
that the Pasig River is rehabilitated to its pristine condition back in the Rizals era in order for it
to be capable of transport, propagation of fishes and aquatic resources, recreation and be able
to be part of our tourism.

Based from some articles that I have read, it is very possible to clean the Pasig River and bring
back its life. One of the solution that I have come up is the Air Stripping. Air stripping is well
known for removing volatile organic chemicals and solid chemicals. Another way is that there
should be a regular clean up in the Pasig River which is monitored and conducted by the local
government. There should also be some aide or guards in the Pasig River which rounds up every
time. Another big factor in the pollution of the Pasig River are the informal settlers living on the
edges of the river. The government should relocate the illegal settlers because their garbage and
wastes are being disposed in the river. Another way is the stoppage of sewage systems that is
connected to the river. It is necessary to stop the the sewage system that is connected to the
river because no matter how much effort we put in collecting the garbage in the river, our efforts
will remain useless if the waste continues to flow in the river through sewage. Consistency,
cooperation and dedication is the key in reviving the Pasig River.
