Principles of Banking and Insurance is a core course in the BBA program which is taken by students
from all areas of majors. This course is to introduce students to the insurance industry and its role in the
financial industry as a risk managing service. The course also aims to introduce the students to various
Course Rationale sides of the banking industry and its role in the overall financial industry and the economy and its
services to corporate and private customers. Furthermore, students should become familiar with the
various types of baking services for different customer segments. Students should also be aware of the
21 ethical issues in the banking industry.
Principles of Banking and Insurance covers a descriptive background of the Insurance and various facets
of the banking industry. There are descriptions of the types of institutions involved, their business
processes and customer segments, the types of services they provide and their guiding principles. There
22 Course Description are also reviews of technical and legal concepts and terms related to risk management, insurance,
commercial banks, investment banks, Islamic banks, central banks, microfinance organizations and
other participants in the greater financing industry.

a. Class Attendance and Participation:
Class attendance is mandatory (at 80% of classes) to qualify for grading as per university policy.
Punctuality is also important. Attendance will be recorded from the beginning of the class.
b. Examination:
There is NO provision for make-up of missed classes and quizzes.
29 Make up mid term will be out of 20 marks instead of 25.
Additional Course c. Assignment:
Policies Assignment must be submitted on the given date. Assignments are individual work. There will be
an individual defense session for each student. Students who do not appear for a defense of their
assignment will receive a zero on the entire assignment, even if the hard copy is submitted.
d. Talking in the exams or class tests is not allowed. Any type of communication
with another student during an exam will result in (-minus) 10 marks in that
exam.
