Carletto73 | GASB Two - The first fan jet RC fully printed in the world 1
Hallo,
In this document, you can find the instruction to assembly the fan jet published on Thingiverse by
me. The model flew very well so you can print and fun in very short time. The design was optimized
to have less part as possible and to be ready to fly in few minutes. The RC model works very well
and is the first EDF fan jet RC printed present today on the web (autumn 2016). In the Thingiverse
page you can find the video that show some phases of the fly
Please reproduce and fly, and at the end let me know your comments and suggestions. Your
feedback, pictures and videos of your GASB Two, around the world, are what drives me to going
ahead, then will be very appreciated remix (with modification and changes) and make on
Thingiverse page.
Enjoy the flight
Carletto73

Ciao,
sviluppare i miei progetti. Sono quindi molto apprezzati remix (con modifiche) e make sulla
pagina di Thingiverse.
Buon volo

Printing of the parts
To maintain a low weight and allow to print with a common 3D home printer (like Prusa) are
needed few tricks.
Dimension of the parts
The flying wing was designed to fit into a standard 3D home printer with working area of
165x165x165mm (6,5x6,5x6,5 inch).
Positioning of the part in the bed of the printer
The height of every part is less of 165mm instead the horizontal dimensions could be bigger than
165mm, for this reason you have to place the piece into the bed with 45% angulation. Other, the
slicer put the infill grid in a fixed point of the bed not depending by the design of the part to printer.
When you slice a part, before print, you have to check where the infill grid is located into per part
and adjust the part position into the bed of the printer in order to have the most efficient positioning
of the infill. Below you can check where I suggest to put the infill in every part. All parts, are
equipped by holes where you can put a 1mm carbon rod, in order to help the correct positioning
before gluing; is very important that all parts have one horizontal infill exactly in the middle of these
holes.
Shell/perimeter
The parts have to be less weight as possible. For this reason, many all parts are made with only
one perimeter of 0,32mm thickness (except hock). My printer has a nozzle of 0,35mm diameter. It
is important that the parts are built with only one perimeter. I saw that the slicer is able to build
perimeter more or less bigger than the nozzle diameter.
Left/right part
In order to have a symmetrical assembly the STL available are only for left wing. To print the right
parts, you have to use the mirror function in your slicer
Printing speed
More slow you print, better will be the result. My suggestion is no exceed 30mm/s extrusion. In
some case, using high speed you can have some part damaged.

Assembly
Before to glue the parts, be sure that the contacts surface
must be smooth. Use always sand paper before glue two
parts together.
To improve the positioning of the parts before gluing, all
parts are equipped by holes, that allow to use plugs in 1mm
carbon rod. The deep of this holes is 5mm then prepare
8mm length carbon rods.
Use cyanoacrylate thin glue

Wings
My suggestion is start to connect front and rear parts of the wings.
Use sand paper to smooth the surfaces, insert the two 1mm carbon
rods, apply the glue and fix together. At the end use the sand paper
in the surfaces that will be connected in the central body and in the
external part of the wing.

Rear Front
Aileron fixing
The ailerons are fixed with steel rods and are blocked in between the two part of every semi-wing.
Before to glue the two pieces of wing, and fix in the meantime the aileron put the steel rod and
check the aileron movement.

Bayonet
The wings are prepared with bayonet. Since the very high
speed of the GASB Two, I recommend the use of 4mm
carbon rods as bayonet.

Carletto73 | GASB Two - The first fan jet RC fully printed in the world 8
Fuselage
Glue all 4 parts of the fuselage together.
For every connection, use sand paper
to smooth the surfaces, insert the two
1mm carbon rods, apply the glue and fix
together. As soon the fuselage is made,
use the sand paper in the surfaces in
contact with the wings and glue the
wings (keep in mind to put the bayonet).

Glue
The best results Ive achieved using cyanoacrylate thin. Maybe the best cold the episodic by-
component but, for my experience I noted that in case of very strong crash the parts soldered with
cyanoacrylate was dismount and, directly in the field is possible to fix again the parts with new CA
glue.

Carletto73 | GASB Two - The first fan jet RC fully printed in the world 9
EDF fixing
Use 50mm diameter EDF. Before to
install the motor, use the screws for
the motor cover to made the thread
into the rear part of the fuselage. The
side of the EDF is 57mm diameter,
this allow to use adhesive rubber tape
to insulate the motor vibration to the corp of the model.
Use XRP/ChangeSun 11 blades 50mm EDF + 4900Kv 3s motor. The
electric duct fan must provide to 580g static thrust. I suggest to use
model XRP-5011w3s from www.turbine-rc.com
The fuselage is equipped by tunnel for motor cable and servos
cables. For the motor cable use, wires 12AWG without connection
from motor and ESC. This reduce the lost in the cables and improve
the performances
It will be very appreciated if someone want test the 4s motor with a thrust of 780g. With this motor I
think that the speed can increase until 200Km/h (125mph)

Servo/aileron connection
The servos are integrated into the wings. For this is needed a
standard 9g servo. I suggest to use metal geared servos.
The rear part of the wings is prepared with the servos site. It
is only need cut a small wall of PLA in order to permit to the
servo arm to exit in the bottom of the wings.
Due the vibration of the EDF, is really recommended fix the
servos in very strong way. I suggest to use bi-adhesive from
servo and wings, after hot glue and then strong adhesive tape
(sorry I lost a sample during the development due a poor fixation).

Carletto73 | GASB Two - The first fan jet RC fully printed in the world 10
Wiring
ESC
Fix the ESC with bi-adhesive tape. Use 45A ESC. The
vane is cooled but be careful to use a robust ESC to avoid
automatic switch off. During the development the GASB
Two flew also without motor traction. The plane seems also
a good glider.

RX module
Also the RX module must be fixed with bi-adhesive tape

Battery
Use Velcro to fix the battery. Be
sure that is possible move upward
or downward the battery to have the
CG in the right point (indicated by
two semi-ball under the wings).
Currenty I flight with 1000mAh 45C.
With the motor suggested the flight
time is around 210 full gas and 3
with some pauses. Using a battery more bigger allow you to increase the flight time but please pay
attention to the weight and center of gravity.

Aileron travel
At the end of the development I can let you know the best setup about the aileron movement
Position of aileron in normal position of sticks: 1mm in up respect the wings exit border
Travel in aileron phase: 8mm
Travel in elevator phase: 8mm
Exponential aileron recommended: 40%
Exponential elevator recommended: 30%

Moveable canard
For more expert user, I suggest to try the moveable canard
See http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1840224

Carletto73 | GASB Two - The first fan jet RC fully printed in the world 11
Weight
Be sure to use very light components.
In my sample the total weight in fly is
577g (20,35 oz). I noted that motor is
able to take off very well, in my mind it
is possible to manage model with more
heavy. Ive also check without motor
and the model seam equilibrated. The
weight of only plastic part is 333g

Center of gravity
Under the wings there is highlighted the correct position of
the CG. In any case this is located 68mm rear the upper
point of the line the connect the wing to the fuselage.
To achieve the correct balancing in the center of gravity,
please pay attention to put the battery completely in the rear
of vane. Also the ESB must be in the rear.

68mm
