December 29th, 1678
Plymouth Colony, Massachusetts
Dearest Diary,
I, Fred Frederickson, hath suffered a horrible,
freezing winter. The terrible soil in which mine
crops were planted hath caused them to perish as
well as thine neighbors. My darling children are
starving, my eldest daughter, Thomasin, be-
witched by hunger. I fear that if I do not find an-
other way to make a living soon, my family and I
will leave this world. A letter and parcel from my
cousin, Freda Frederickson, stated that her son,
Frederick Frederickson had found work at the
dock as a fisherman. They so generously sent a
parcel of freshly caught Atlantic salmon to sus-
tain us during these cold winter months. My beau-
tiful wife, Frederica, and my five children may
need to move to port so that I may find employ-
ment and provide for them. These are difficult
times indeed.
Until next time,
Fred Frederickson
