Introduction

English language teaching today is of the utmost importance and is well accepted by a
large part of society. Many are the benefits that involve the individual who masters
other languages. In a world so globalized and open to new situations of conviviality, a
universal language is present and takes its place among students of various ages and
diverse cultures, aiming at a single goal that is to be connected with the rest of the
world.
Brief history of the English language
With a history of about 1500 years, English originated from the fusion of the Germanic
dialects spoken by the Anglo-Saxons, when they, in the second half of the fifth century,
invaded the Celtic territory, currently occupied by England. Over time, English has
evolved, not only in its vocabulary, but also in its pronunciation and grammar.
The first form of English, spoken between the fifth and eleventh centuries, is known as
Old English. During this period England was divided into 7 Anglo-Saxon kingdoms,
and English spoken was not a single language but a variety of different dialects that
were very functional and were used to describe concrete facts and daily communication
needs.
The process of Christianization from the end of the sixth century introduced in the
English language the influence of Latin and Greek. The vocabulary, then, expanded to
include more abstract religious concepts. Compared to current English, Old English is
virtually unrecognizable, both in pronunciation and vocabulary and grammar.
The second form of English, known as Middle English, evolved after the Normans
conquered England with the Battle of Hastings in 1066 AD The regime that was
introduced was characterized by the centralization, strength and language of the
conquerors, the French dialect Norman French , Which in addition to being the
language of the aristocracy, expanded the vocabulary of the English language
considerably. This form of English was in vogue from the 11th to the 15th centuries.
The third form of English, Modern English, is the one spoken from the fifteenth century
to the present day. With the emergence of a nationalist sentiment in the late fifteenth
century, the vocabulary of the English language again expanded with the introduction of
new administrative, political, and social concepts. In some cases, where words of
Germanic origin already existed, they disappeared or coexisted with the equivalents of
French origin, such as the words liberty and freedom.
There are, however, countries where English, although not the mother tongue, is the
official language - used in governmental and educational functions - and spoken by its
inhabitants, as is the case of India, the Philippines and Pakistan, for example. There are
more than 50 nations that have English as an official language.
Importance of English in the Labor Market
Speaking English, a long time ago, is no longer desirable to become mandatory in large
companies worldwide. And I'm not just talking about multinationals.
English is the language of the internet, world music, international cinema, aviation and
navigation. It is also the official language of documents and scientific meetings, in
addition to international sports such as Olympic Games, world trade, etc.
The globalization of the economy, the growth of the internet, and the facilities to do
business more directly and dynamically have forced an increasing number of companies
to seek ways to build partnerships and businesses in previously ignored markets.
The supply of products and services that previously did not exist that now become
indispensable and essential grows in a frightening and unexpected way. Few people live
without a smartphone, a data packet for internet access, while increasing in geometric
progress the number of apps offers with the most unimaginable types of products and
services that only a month before anyone could even imagine, in the most fanciful
dreams .
Today is incalculable the number of people who have a facebook account. Not long ago,
cell phone companies made a fortune by sending txt messages. The arrival of Whatsapp
completely revolutionized this type of business and now it is possible to send photos,
videos and all kinds of messages at no additional cost to the mobile account.
Consequently, almost no one else uses that Jurassic communication system to send and
receive messages over the cell phone.
Today we live surrounded by products and services from all over the world. The
internet has also revolutionized buying and selling and international products and
services. A company that was a leader in its segment in their country, today faces
competition from a group of avid and hungry entrepreneurs in India, Europe and
anywhere on the globe.
You do not need to speak Chinese to close deals in China or Japan. I've had numerous
conversations with people in China, Korea, India, Vietnam and other countries without
having to worry about the local language of the country I was talking to. If you speak
English, you communicate with the world.
English is the language that connects all these people from different countries and
cultures. No matter your country of origin, in the world of international business, at the
negotiating table between companies and institutions from different countries the
business is closed in English.
Speaking English increases your chances of achieving and maintaining a prominent
position in the increasingly-contested labor market by up to seventy percent.
Every day the number of people looking for Metrpoles Idiomas increases because the
company they work for has reached a level of growth where they need to
internationalize to continue growing and become more competitive in the segment of
the market where they work.
Likewise, the number of professionals coming to us increases because they have been
fired from their jobs because they do not speak English, and are looking to take
immersion and intensive courses to get back to the job market.
Understand the importance of English in the globalized world
The English language is increasingly present in our day to day: from movies, series and
songs of success to the expressions incorporated into our speech. You've certainly heard
of selfie and spoiler, right? However, amid this invasion of Anglicisms in Portuguese
and the close contact of children and adolescents with the language through the media
and the internet, there remains the question: does your child really need to devote so
much? To help you answer this question, we have separated in today's post some
important points about today's language learning and the opportunities that the English
language can generate in the globalized world. Then check out:

Highest mark in ENEM

The National High School Examination is designed to test candidates' knowledge in a

variety of areas, including a foreign language. For this reason, English and Spanish have
become compulsory subjects in many schools and in preparatory courses. Therefore,
students who already have a certain fluency in the language tend not only to be more
comfortable with the preparation and the test itself, but also to save time and efforts in
studying for ENEM. And the best: they still achieve better results than those who settle
for basic English!

Ease in academic readings

The command of the English language plays a fundamental role in the student life of a
graduate student. Regardless of the course you choose, the student may come across
research, scientific articles, monographs and other academic works that are extremely
relevant, but not yet translated into Portuguese. Many times, even these readings are
mandatory for the learning of a discipline. Therefore, a student with sharp English ends
up being more likely to understand the content presented and to follow more easily in
their training.

In addition, have you ever thought that an advanced level of English can become the
differential between candidates in a selection of fellowships for monitoring or scientific
initiation, for example? With this current knowledge, the student has the possibility to
make the most of the opportunities offered by the educational institution.

Since English is widely spoken in the business world, many companies require language
proficiency on the part of their employees and employees. After all, institutions end up
depending on the language to conduct international transactions, deal with imported
software and products, obtain information from foreign sources (such as newspapers
and scientific publications) and countless other purposes. In this way, the young person
who already enters the job market with language proficiency gains prominence in
relation to the competitors.

Networking with professionals from all over the world

And the advantages of mastering English go beyond the business issue, even those who
do not intend to work in the giant multinationals can not miss the opportunity to meet
other professionals simply by bumping into the language issue. This relationship, called
networking, can be a watershed in anyone's career, as increasing their network of
contacts can generate new opportunities and promising partnerships.
Independence of translation services
This tip is especially important for anyone who does not dispense a good book, is a
Hollywood movie fan or loves British pop culture. After all, it is more than natural for
works produced in another language to be released in their original language. And as
much as today we can count on a faster process of translation and subtitling, it still takes
some time. To be free of this waiting, it is important to have knowledge of the language.

And in addition to having a more agile access to film and book content, those who
master English still have the ability to translate documents such as school records,
curricula, article summaries, dissertations, or anything else that does not require the
stamp of a sworn translator. This makes it easier to solve problems that would normally
run into the bureaucracy of translation services.

Immersion in new cultures

Another advantage of having the command of English (and perhaps the strongest
argument for convincing your child to study the language) is to be able to use it as a
lingua franca to communicate in another country. Of course there are still regions where
the language is not spoken by locals, but the tendency is for this type of situation to
become increasingly unusual.

Have you noticed how, throughout the world, tourism companies hire professionals who
speak English? The logic is simple: this ensures communication with virtually any
traveler. That is why anyone who intends to go out there knowing several places should
worry about learning to speak English at least to avoid problems.

English is the language of the internet, computer science, world cinema, international
sports, aviation, navigation, scientific meetings, international trade and tourism. It is, in
fact, the most studied language in the world outside the countries of origin. There is no
denying or masking its importance.
Conclusion

Globalization has made English essential today. It is the international language, the
language of studies, travel, business, that is, universal communication. Speaking
English is a differential, especially when it comes to doing a research or job interview,
since in some areas, such as technology professionals, it is necessary to master that
language, which makes English a working tool.
