To whom it may concern:

Amber Klaasen interned at Muskegon Middle School as a reading interventionist during our six week
summer school program. While summer school can pose interesting and significant challenges
(considering the nature of the clientele that are served), Amber did a phenomenal job convincing the
students to take their learning to another level. Tasked with planning small group interventions for
students that were struggling in their ELA classes, Amber worked specifically with students grouped
together for second and third tiers of intervention. It was clear that the students liked Amber as they
were willing to miss out on planned activities to participate in her reading interventions. Furthermore,
100% of the students Amber worked with successfully completed summer school.

Ambers role was designed to intervene and catch students that failed to demonstrate achievement
during lessons in their summertime ELA classes. While Amber did this, she also spent time observing
master teachers during tier one instruction. Ambers willingness to participate in all facets of summer
programming, her desire to get to know the challenging kids she was working with, and her desire to go
out into the community and see where the kids lived and how their lives outside of school impacted
their lives inside of school where all impressive and admirable traits.

Throughout the summer, it became clear that Amber is a passionate educator destined to shape the
lives of young people. She is engaging, positive, and passionate: all characteristics that are not easily
coached. I recommend Amber Klaasen for any opportunities available to her. She will make a fine
educator. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact me at (231) 286-3049.

Sincerely,

Joshua Smith
