Writing Prompt 2

My graduation project research paper is an event that is especially important to me

because it immensely shaped me into the literate person I am today. This paper was written in

my junior year of high school, and was apart of the English III curriculum taught by one of my

best English teachers ever, Mrs. Lail. This paper taught me how to research, write in a specific

format, have attention to detail and it improved my time management skills.

As stated before Mrs. Lail to me is one of the best English teachers Ive ever had, as she

is really significant to the development of my literacy narrative. Mrs. Lail made sure to make us

write something everyday and gave me a good literate foundation with the research paper. Mrs.

Lail was always helpful with me and she would always give me references to look into or help

me find better ways to rephrase unclear text. She really made me understand everything about

the writing format we had to do and how to do it correctly.

The graduation research paper is required in order to graduate by the Rowan Salisbury

and is generally done in a persons junior year for a grade. The paper must be written in MLA

format and contain at least eight pages without the works cited. The topic is really has no limit

but it is prefered for an individual to research a career that they can see possibly doing in the

future. Writing this paper really allowed to get familiar with MLA format, showed me how to

write a research paper, guided me to properly use sources and showed me how to cite them and

instruct me how to pay attention to detail when writing. She also made sure I always double

checked anything I read or wrote.

The paper had a two week time frame, during which we went to the computer labs and

library almost daily. The first four pages were due in a week which caused to make sure I did not

waste any time. At the end I ended up writing thirteen pages as well as getting an A on it, my

teacher also loved my topic which was Interpretation and Translation in the Army. The research

also led me to do ROTC in college and gave me the information I needed in order to enlist into

the Army Reserve which I did last November. In all, this event really caused me to enjoying

writing a little bit more and also set a foundation for my career and future essays that I will write

in college.
